dps file became a mpg -

Post by bearbrass »

Hi,

My wife worked for days creating a show for her sis-in-laws 70th.

Somehow right near the end of all her work somehow she got the
project into Irfanview (don't ask me how) and the project got saved
some way as a MPG file.

Now CD & DVD 4 says the file is invalid, yes a simple change of
extension name didn't do it.

Is there anyway a MPG file can be converted into an Ulead DPS
file please?

Cheers,

A dps file is the project file of CD & DVD PS. It is impossible to "somehow" turn that into an mpeg file. Having said that, if you render your project out, you will get an mpeg file of some description, depending on which template you use.

Not knowing what exactly took place makes it impossible to judge what could be done to "fix" it.

Did you try to play that mpeg file in media player?

Impossible!!!!! _ You don't know my wife, her clicking finger can
do amazing things.

Given that she says she

a) clicked on the sunflower icon, selected new photo slide show

b) did the add all photographs

c) went to 2 Theme

d) selected a gallery picture

e) went to Menu and fiddle with Background Audio

f) fiddled with Background Image

g) selected a Pan and Zoom - dunno which one

h) selected a Motion Filter - dunno which one

i) unticked back ground video

j) made the duration 10 seconds

k) then went to Slide Show and made the duration 8 seconds

l) then added all her selected music

m) then did Photo Frame

n) then Transition Effect

o) the Pan Zoom again

p) fiddled with the audio and affect, the same with text and background

q) THEN she went to Save slideshow as vidio file and clicked on good quality

r) this brought up a window called save video file (this is where she thinks she
went wrong) - left it as is Save In Ulead Cd & DVD picture show

s) in a window it had a folder 4.0

t) she gave the file the name Emily 1
and the save as type was only one choice .MPG
she says that was the ONLY choice she was presented with
and it took about 3 HOURS to save !!!!!

She would dearly love to be able to upon it with Ulead, edit and resave
but when she goes to open the project file Ulead only sees DPS extensions

Phew sorry for the long winded

So she did render out an mpg file, that is the correct way. whether or not she used the right settings I don't know.

PS can only open project files with the dps extension. It cannot open an mpeg file which is normal.

If she wants to redo the slide show but did not save the project within DVD PS, I'm afraid, she may have to do it again. Check your working folder for dps files and open these in PS, you might get lucky and find the project file she used.
