VideoStudio 11 Plus not capturing to AVI

Post by Ballistix »

Hi, I've tried everything. I want to capture to AVI instead of MPEG. I've set the properties to be AVI but it keeps saving MPEG files when I capture! I have a Cannon HV20 and it's hi-def material at 1440x1080.

It won't let me select anything other than MPEG on the capture screen in the product though...

Can anyone please help? I have to capture to AVI!

Cheers

Your cam records in HiDef MPEG2. That's why VS won't let you capture to AVI.
A straight transfer from cam to computer with no loss would be HiDef MPEG2 to HiDef MPEG2.

My problem there is that I then can't use any of the products from fxhome.com because they use native AVI.

As usual left between a rock and a hard place...all the conversion utils I've tried so far result in flickering AVIs....

Why can't these things be simple...

I'm wondering if Canopus Edios 4 might do AVI on the fly will try that...this is becoming a nightmare...

Is there any way to get my camera to save to AVI? It's a tape based machine I didn't expect it to compress on the fly but I take your word for it.

I am only guessing here but there may be an option to downrez the MPEG2 to standard definition for transfer to the computer from WITHIN the cam. Check the manual.
This may give you a more suitable MPEG2 file for converting to AVI.

I don't want to lose the resolution though, not sure if what you are suggesting will do that...but that defeats the object if it does.

Yes it will lose the HiDef resolution.
Ok, rather than me clutch at straws here, as I am not familiar enough with the cam and the format, I think if you wait, one of the hiDef gurus will come to your rescue when day braks in their part of the world.
Good luck.

OK thanks, will wait and see what the experts say. Looks like I'm heading towards a pro level of software....what a drag I like Video Studio too...
