Ulead GIF Animator 5 Stops Responding

Post by Dyre Straits »

For the most part, I've really enjoyed using this app that came with my PhotoImpact 7. I've also enjoyed immensely, the Photo Explorer 7 Pro.

Here's the problem I'm having at the moment:

I import a small video into GIF Animator 5. It has only 1111 frames. Once all frames are present, if I try to do anything....even save the project 'as is'.... the program stops responding.

My system specs are in my sig....which was created BTW.....with GIF Animator 5. :)

First of all it's an AVI file. The overall size is 4.83 MB.

w x h = 703 x 480

Duration is 37 secs

Bit Rate = 128kbps

Audio format = MPEG Layer-3

29 frames/second

Data rate = 133kbps

Video Sample size = 24 bit

Video Compression = DivX codec

Let me know if you need any other information.

Are you using the latest DivX codec? You can get it from http://www.divx.com

If it does not work, you can contact Ulead Tech Support to see if they have any fix for AVI files.

Hope this helps.

I got the latest DivX just last night. I'll try this again later. The previous DivX I was using had been downloaded and installed only a month or so ago.

EDIT: Updated 4/6/05

Well, I tried it again with the latest DivX codecs. This time I was able to get as far as selecting the 90 clips I wanted to use, adding my Banner Text to the frames, and then even got so far as the Save As option. But, when I named the file and commenced the save operation, the HD Light on the front of my case kept glowing and flickering for over 20 minutes.

Finally, a check using Task Manager showed again the the application had stop responding.

I had selected the native UGA file format to save it to so as to be able to open the file for editing again.

I finally accomplished what I was trying to do with this video. :)

Of the 1111 frames, I only wanted to use 90. So, I was able to delete all those before and after this particular sequence.

THEN, I went to the Save as option and selected Video. This created a new AVI file using ONLY the 90 frames I wanted to use.

After that, I then OPENed the new AVI file and was able to create all the special effects I wanted to create and was able to do it rather quickly with no hesitation or further problems.

Persistence pays off! :)
