I am trying the tutorial for lightning I am using PSP XI for my image editor. When making a selection to place the lightning where i want it then save it all i get is the area that i have selected. If i do a select all i get the lightning in the midd;e of the image. I know the answer is probably pretty simple.

That tutorial leaves a wee bit of information missing... like the fact you can drag the lightning around to where you want it to be.
Select the entire image, then open GIF-X. On the Key Frame control, click to select Frame 1. The lightning will disappear, but if you move the mouse around the top of the image, you will eventually get the four-headed arrow, and you can click and drag the lightning to where you want it. Then select the last key frame, and again click and drag both ends of the lightning to where you want it to be.
That should do it!
