Xacti CG65 (H264) : VS11+ crashed when opening file

Post by philippe44 »

Hi - I upgraded to VS11+ and bought a Xaccti CG65 (Sanyo) which does encode video in H264. Problem is that EVERYTIME I open ANY file created with the CG65 (PAL, 640*480, 30 fps) VS11+ crashes ... Any help would be very welcome - thanks

and by the way it also crashes the exact same way when using the DVD Movie Factory provided with the camera (tried on 2 different PC's) ... great ! I can believe that these guys are shipping something with their product which simply does not work at ALL !

Did you find a solution to this? I just installed VS and am having exactly the same problem. Have found a few similar issues but no solutions. For info, the crash info is:

AppName: vstudio.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.0 ModName: h264vdechpdll.dll
ModVer: 1.1.1.73 Offset: 00051194

Thanks

Sanyo used their own proprietary mpeg-4 engine in the Xacti series, and it seemed to conflict with VS (and, I believe, other editing programs). Sanyo at some stage released a fix for it in Japan, but I never heard about it being available outside Japan. Did you get a sofware disc with the camera?

Xacti HD1000 and VS

Post by HaleyFont »

I just got a Sanyo Xacti HD1000 camera and have been trying out different ways to edit the files. So far I've tried Pinnacle, Premiere Elements and Ulead VS. Ulead VS has handled the Sanyo files the best of anything so far. It hasn't crashed on me. I can play the individual clips well enough that I can kind of tell where to clip them. Trying to play the entire movie is impossible, though. My computer doesn't crash, but the timeline does not play well at all. I will have to practice using the smart proxy and see if that helps.

I have heard other users talk about firmware updates. Have you checked into that?

The output from Ulead is good when I use mp2. I uploaded a short video to Vimeo that came out pretty well for online.

http://www.vimeo.com/1147471

I am shooting at 720p resolutions. Unfortunately, Ulead does not let me output to mp4 h.264 at 720p resolution. Therefore, I had to output to .mpg and then use a video converter to convert to h.264. Then I uploaded and Vimeo reencoded the file again to .flv. That's a lot of reencoding.

I surely do hope that Ulead will include support for mp4 h.264 at 720p. I'd love to be able to use my mp4 h.264 720p files in movie factory and output back to the same format and resolution. I think it would preserve a lot of quality.

(Note - if you found that confusing: I am bringing my mp4 h.264 files in 720p into Ulead VS just fine. However, I can't output back out to that resolution. I have to go higher, 1080i, or lower. If you know of a way to output h.264 in 720p, I'd love to know about it.)
