Video Studio 11 + Canon HV20 HDV

Post by ContactGT »

I can't seem to get Video Studio 11 to 'talk' to my Canon HV20 while it is in HDV mode. There seem to be several posts around this topic, but they all seem to suggest the 'old' computer is at fault. My computer is pretty new, so I don't believe any of the posts are quite the same as this...

I have my Canon HV20 connected to my Dell Inspiron 6400 Dual Core Intel 2GHz laptop using FireWire. I believe there to be plenty of processing power available.

When I open VS11, I can choose either Movie Wizard, or DV-to-DVD wizard, but both result in the same thing: The software will only connect to the Canon HV20 when I set it to DV-locked mode (DV only). If the camera is in HDV/DV mode, then the software doesn't 'see' it.

I have downloaded a little application called HDVSplit and it can capture HDV clips from the camera using the same computer and cable. So this means that the laptop, the camera and the cable are all capable of transfering in HDV mode, leaving the problem purely in VS11. The problem with using HDVSplit is that it stores the files as M2T files, which VS11 doesn't open!

Is there a patch or add-in for Visual Studio 11 that will get it to capture from my camera in HDV mode?

Are you sure your using the PLUS version of VS11? Sounds like your using the standard version of VS11.

You should capture HDV in the capture module after starting VS in the timeline editing interface. But, make sure you have the plus version because you should be able to insert your .m2t files.
You can always rename them from .m2t to mpg which should also work, not good practice though because they are 2 different containers but should work..
