Does Version 10+ Capture Analog Sources?

Post by astrovideo »

Hi,
A while back I purchased a device by ADS called USB Instant Video CD. It has RCA inputs and connects to the computer via USB. It came with VideoStudio version 7 SE for capturing.

Since then I upgraded to VideoStudio version 10+, and now I can't capture with this device anymore. The device is still recognized by Windows Device Manager, and by VideoStudio (I see it in the drop-down in the Capture Tab), but for some reason, the preview screen is blank. I get the same results even if I try to capture using version 7 like I used to.

I'm wondering if the install of verion 10+ somehow wiped out the ability to capture from Analog Sources (BTW, transftering DV video via firewire still works fine). Any ideas?

Thank you.

Your version 7 SE was tweaked by the manufacturer of your capture device to work with their hardware. VS 10+ doesn't come with these tweaks because it is the standard full version.

Ulead provide their software to OEM manufacturers as an SE (simple edition) version to allow them to modify the code to suit their devices.

I suggest you capture with VS 7 SE and edit with VS10+

But Like I said above, Version 7 no longer works with this either. That's why I was wondering if version 10 somehow removed the ability to capture analog. Has anybody captured analog with version 10?

It is most likely that installing VS10 has overwritten key files that allowed VS7SE to capture analogue FROM THAT SPECIFIC DEVICE.
VS10 can cpature analogue from many devices, but, as Heinz has already told you it is a safe bet that VS7SE was tweaked for that particular device.
Try re-installing VS7SE and see if it restores those files to the original.

A system restore to a time prior to installation of VS 10 may also help

Thanks for the replies. I'm reluctant to re-install version 7 SE, because I'd hate for that to mess up version 10 in any way.

Can anyone recommend an analog/RCA capture device that is already known to work with VS10?
[EDIT]: Changed to a new thread for this question, thank you.
Thank you.

I'll answer this one before I do the same in your new topic.

Have you checked your video capture properties in VS10(options). It defaults to a tv tuner. Change it to composite and all may be fine. (It worked for me) :)

astrovideo -- there should be no conflict between VS7 and VS10. I no longer have VS7 installed, but currently have versions 8,9, 10+ and 11+ installed on the same computer with no problems at all. And it wasn't long ago that I had VS7 (but not VS11+) installed at the same time.
