Faulty VO2 overlay ("Twinkling lights") in VS9

Post by terry dennis »

I have recently completed a home movie involving extensive use of the VO2 overlay clip. I am very disappointed with the result as the clip has an inbuilt fault of a lighter coloured band across the width of the clip.

Following contact with Corel Tech Support (14 to 16 Aug 07) , I have installed the VS9 update pack (made no difference !) and Microsoft Updates dxsdk_aug2007_.exe and directx_aug2007_redist.exe
The first updated installed OK but made no difference ; the second asked for a location into which to place the extracted files ! I had no idea. Tech Support now say that "This product does not include the cost of technical support."

Any suggestions to remedy the fault with the inbuilt VO9 overlay video ?

I think your talking about the Celebration-End .avi video clip (V02 in the Library), available in VS9 correct?

If so that light colored band, albeit a nuisance is part of the video clip. I think Ulead intended that to be the Text background for the Lower-Third, don't know for sure though. There is no way that I'm aware of to remove it. You could try cropping it out, however it positioned high enough from the bottom of the frame, you would crop out a good portion of the video.

I've never attempted using that one, or for that matter, many of the supplied video clips. I've always treated them as examples to to test features and functions of the programs.

Corel poor "support" with Celebration end" vi

Post by terry dennis »

Since your last email , I have had a couple of emails from Corel support which don't impress me at all.
The first was to download VS9 update pack which did no good.
The second was to download and install dxsdk_aug2007.exe which took 35 minutes + and which did not help.
The third was to download and install directx_aug2007_redist.exe which they said to place in the ULead program directory. This did no good either.

I now have hundreds of files apparently doing no good. Is there any way I can get rid of the unwanted files from the latter two actions ?

Hi Terry

I think you may have to explain this statement in a little more detail. What hundreds of files.????

If you have used V02 in your project, simply click to highlight the clip and hit the delete button.
If you have used the clip in the main (top) timeline, then the timeline will close the gap as you delete the clip. This may cause you some additional problems.

If you have rendered the project to a single video file then there is little you can do but start over again.

Corel support for faulty Celebration Video clip VO2 in VS9

Post by terry dennis »

Sorry for the confusion ! Jeff hit the nail on the head. It is not that I want to get rid of the ONE VO2 video clip from the library or from my edited movie.

It is the masses (hundreds) of files that came in when the two recommended .exe files were downloaded and installed. These two actions have done no apparent good so are wasting space.

Any ideas what to do to reverse the actions of dxsdk_aug_2007.exe and directx_aug2007_redist.exe ?

I think it was me thats confused.........

As you are using XP, what about ¡¥System Restore¡¦ to a point before you started the downloads.

Anyway Terry I have managed to create a new clip from V02 without the coloured band.
You do loose some of the detail and quality, as you zoom in.
But the effect looks good.
If you have used V02 extensively then this will replace all files in the project.
If you need more details, just ask.

VO2 video problem in VS9

Post by terry dennis »

Trevor

Many thanks for that. I didn't think of system restore and when you mentioned it didn't think it would work on that type of thing ! It has removed files from that directory. Thanks !

I would be interested to get your details about your amendments to VO2.

Why can't Corel (ULead) address a question with simplicity instead of their apparent urge to throw the kitchen sink at it ??

Hi Terry

Start a new project
Use V02 in the overlay track
Right click the preview window
Fit to screen
Drag the image downwards about half way.
Drag the top trim handles to stretch the image up to fill the screen.
Repeat until the lower bars are gone.
Render (share create video file) to same properties as video clip. (you may have to use Make Movie Manager to create a template)

Name as Celebration-End.avi

Replace the V02 file in the Sample/Video folder (it may be best to re-name the original or make a copy)

Open your project you will be prompted to re-link the file.
This should replace all your V02 clips.

The library will need re-linking as well

Good luck

'Celebration end' VO2 in VS9

Trevor

Mission accomplished !

Result is very acceptable and so much better than the library video with the discoloured band across.

Many thanks ......................... and to think that Corel Tech Support were sending me all round the mulberry bush on a false trial !
