Vertical Splicing/Triming/Overlay - 2 videos on the screen

Post by interman »

I am using Media Studio Pro V7.2. I want to use the bottom half (approx) of one video over another video. I have been unable to figure out how.

The easiest way to explain what I want to do is to think of MSNBC or CNBC where they have a stock ticker at the bottom of the screen. I have a video of MSNBC of the stock ticker (with all the extra program stuff) and a video of a man doing an interview (with engouh space to put the ticker). I want to be able to put the stock ticker on the interview clip.

I thought maybe I could trim the unwanted parts, but there it no vertical trim. Also I cannot find an overlay that works with out a transition. IS there a place in Video Editor to trim or zoom to the part that I want then palce it on top of another video.

I cannot find a reference in the help file on on this forum for this. I also do not know the term for this so this may be my problem. Any help? Please?

Use Image Matte

You can create a Image Matte for the foreground layer using a paint program. The Image Matte is available as an option in the Overlay Options. These are the steps:

1) Capture a frame of your foreground video to a file, using the Save Image=>Image File option in either the Source Window menu or Preview Window menu
2) Edit the file, and change the area you want to include to pure black, and anywhere you want to show through, change to pure white. If you want partial transparency, use a shade of grey.
3) Save the B&W image matte file
4) Put your background video in Va or Vb
5) Put your foreground video in V1, and right-click to select Overlay Options. Note that Overlay Options is not available in Va/Vb.
6) In the Mask field, select Image Matte, and browse to your B&W matte file
7) In the Type field, select "Grey Key"

Use the scrubber to look at the results, and adjust the Image Matte as necessary.

Thanks mTp:

It works perfectly. I used it to create a pseudo newscast.
