MSP 8 vs VS 11+ ?

Post by bgm1961 »

Hello all,

Does Media Studio Pro 8 have at least the same features as Video Studio 11+, to include chroma key and pan/zoom? I ask partly because I've heard the current version of MSP is several years old.

I'm currently evaluating Video Studio 11+. At first, I thought VS 11+ would be all I need. And though I really enjoy the capabilities that it does have, as I'm putting VS 11+ through its paces during my 30 day free trial, I'm finding some shortcomings, not to mention a frsutrating lack of detail in the online user manual.

When combing these forums to help fill-in some of the gaps is when I discovered MSP 8, and also for that matter, DVD workshop. So now I don't know whether to stick with VS 11+ or give MSP 8 a shot. (I'm also leaning towards DVD Factory, maybe Workshop as their authoring capabilities seem to offer more of what I was looking for).

I don't mind paying the extra $ for MSP 8 as long as it has the same features as VS 11+ plus what one would expect to come with a higher price tag.

Thanks in adavnce for your comments!

Yes, it has all those and much more besides: why not try the TBYB trial version? It has a few limitations not on the full version, but you can see the difference.

If you choose for MSP and WS2, keep in mind that your operating system must be Win2K or XP. They both do not run under Vista (and possibly never will).

Get the trial versions of both. The differences are quite evident once you open the programs. VS is a very good entry level program, MSP caters for a more advanced semi-pro user.

Thanks all,

I appreciate the quick feedback. I had gathered that MSP was the more advanced product. But considering it's several years old I was curious if perhaps the consumer-targeted Video Studio of 2007 had caught up to the semi-pro-targeted Media Studio of 2004/5?

I'll give the trial version of MSP a shot... the incompatability with Vista sort of bothers me... but it'll still be a while before my machine sees Vista anyway.

Thanks again ,
Barry

Hi Ilene,

Although the System Requirements page for MSP8 on Ulead's site does not list it, I run MSP8 on Windows Media Center without any problems.

Some report problems, others report no problems. Dunno why!

I have had the same experience with VS9 and MCE - I had no issues but others did. However, I did have problems with VS10+ ( and supposedly it was compatible with MCE)...and I don't have issues with VS11+. So I guess it is quirky. I'll just hope that mine will be ok...if I purchase it. Right now, I'm playing with the trial.
thanks for your help.
