I am using VS 11Plus and having an issue when I create an .AVI (high quality video) file. The sound is perfectly sync'ed up when the video starts, bu by half way through the sound is far behind the video...it almost looks like one of those old dubbed karate flicks by half way through...HELP, I need to use this for a presentation tomorrow.

SmartRender, as far as I am aware, only works when you are re-rendering a video in the same format. In other words, it cannot work in any case if you are going from one format to another, as you sound as though you are doing.
Therefore, first, we need a better idea of where your original video came from and what format was it in. Also, did you at any stage re-render it in the same format?
Next, we also need to know what version of high quality AVI you are trying to produce. There are a variety of video formats which use .avi extension and all are capable of producing high quality video. These included uncompressed .avi (huge -- 65 GB for an hour of video); DV/AVI used in mini DVD digital video cameras (13GB/hour); and the highly compressed DivX and XVid formats.

OK, thank you for the reply...I just want to get rid of the out of sync sound I keep getting...I know there are MANY posts on this...but if you do a search...where to start, there are just to many to count...I dont know where to start at.
As to your questions...I am using MiniDV format 13GB hour)...as to rendering...I am doing it in the same format AVI to AVI...when I go to the Share tab and create a video file, I choose "sameas project settings" which are MS AVI files 24bits, 720 x 480, 4:3, 29.97 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- NTSC, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
I hope this helps you...I am NOT using MPEG as I want high quality output...thank you for your quick reply.

Hmmm... this is about the first time I have ever heard of someone having out of sync problems using SmartRender on DV/AVI, and I have been on this Board more than 5 years now... Hopefully, it is not going to become an issue with VS11, though I am feeling rather jaundiced about the current version at the moment...
Anyway, to turn off SmartRender is easy. With your DV in the timeline, you go to Share > Create Video File > DV. Then in the dialogue box which appears, you are asked to give a name to your new file. Click on Options, and in the new box which appears, you will see that SmartRender is the second or third choice down the list.
At least, using DV, there will be no loss of quality at all in re-rendering without SmartRender...

Not that it matters much in this instance because the loss is minute but you are incorrect in claiming that rendering from to DV-Avi does not cause any loss whatsoever. DV-Avi is a relatively lossless compression in the first generation. With repeated renderings you will start to see a quality deterioration.
I would rather suspect this to be something related to VS 11. I have never heard off or experienced sync loss when rendering to Dv-Avi. I did have an issue once, a long time ago with MSP 6.5, where my rendered mpeg file, from a DV-Avi source, had sync issues. At the time, with the help of Terry Stetler, we determined that it was the on board sound I was using which caused my problem. Adding a TurtleBeach based sound card fixed my problem.
Maybe the OP is using on board sound in which case I would recommend a test with a PCI soundcard, if available.
