I have connected up a video to my TV tuner card (Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II) using S-Video and the 2 audio cables.
First problem i have no sound.
I have checked the Volume Control panel and all looks correct with the line in option selected.
What i have noticed as soon as i click on the Capture Video tab the volume icon in task bar shows its muted for a second.
Second problem
When i try to capture the video i get the following
MPEG capture does not accept HCW2 codec. Please select a suitable codec from the video list. It is recommended to use codec (1) YUV codec first, then (2) RBG-24 codec.
The only option in the video format list is HCW2 option.
Capture plug in is Ulead MPEG capture plug-in for DirectShow capture driver.
Videostudio is version 10
Any advice much needed
Thanks in advance

Use the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software that came with your capture card. Once you have a digital file on your hard drive, you can use the video editing* software and DVD authoring software of your choice.
Some capture hardware and capture software just don't play well together. My hypothesis is that there is no standard for analog capture drivers. (There is a Microsoft standard for common peripherals like printers. The printer manufacturer follows the standard when they write the driver, and the application writer/manufacturer follows the standard when they write the program. That way, any Windows printer works with any Windows program.)
* I've had trouble when editing MPEG files with Video Studio. (The Hauppauge card has a built-in MPEG encoder, and it only captures to MPEG.) This doesn't happen to everyone, but I have a Hauppauge card and I had to buy a special purpose MPEG editor.

When I first got the Videostudio software I tried some recording to see if it worked and it went well. Months later when I really needed to use it don't work so something has happened.
How do I find if it got WinTV2000 software on my PC?
The TV tuner was installed when I got the PC and I use Windows Media Center to watch the TV.
Anyway to use Windows Media Center to record the VHS tapes?
Is capturing to MPEG the best option?
Other options file sizes get too big?
Thanks for your comments

Movie maker is not designed for analogue capture, if you et it to work you'll be lucky.
As for the sound, ensure you have the sound card selected in volume control and the line in selected, the audio leads plugged into the line in and of course select the audio card in movie maker as the audio source.
