Need help inserting image into the main menu of my project

Post by Gumercindo »

Hi there,

First, let me say that I used the search function but had difficulties finding help.

I'm an editing novice and I'm just starting to get into VideoStudio 10Plus. I have my project all set up, but in Creating a Disc, the default image at the main menu is a snapshot of the opening scene of the project. Seems that this is some sort of built-in default functionality that the app has.

How do I replace that image in the main menu (the main menu is the area that shows chapter #s, etc., just in case I'm not explaining it correctly) with a separate image?

Many thanks!!!

When you go to create the menu, you can scrub the video and select the frame for your image. Just load the video, and in the create menu process, right click over the video and you should see "change thumbnail". Use the scrub control to move the video to what you want. Set it, and your done..

you can change the thumbnail that will appear on your menu, but within the video file only. On the "create disc" window of VS, on the right side is a preview window where you can preview your video clips included in the project. click on your video clip that you wish to change the thumbnail then slide the jog slider to the frame within the video that you wish to be the new thumbnail to be shown on your menu screen. right-click on your video clip on the media clip list then choose "change thumbnail" option. you should then notice that the thumbnail of your video clip changed from the first scene of the video to that of your chosen scene.

i hope this will help!

Thanks for your responses. The issue is that I'm trying to insert an image from my personal library as the background image in the main menu section. I am not trying to paste a still image of the video clip.

The second screen of the Share > Create Disc phase is where you pick your menu template. At the top left of that window click on the Edit tab to edit your menu.

Click on Background Image/Video to choose a background image.

Vampire101 (does that imply you are just learning to be one??? )

Anyway, I cannot get your method to work with the SmartScene menus. I had been hoping it might, but no way. Can you pls confirm which menu templates your method works with. With the SmartScene templates, at least, the video in the icon starts at the very beginning, and does not appear to be variable. I can live with it, but would prefer not to.

Thanks for the quick reply. I perhaps should have been more specific. When you talk about the thumbnail, are you talking about having only a still image in the little screen or a moving image of the video itself? I am not talking here of the possible use of a video background to the whole menu; just the preview screen icon within the menu...

a moving image of the video itself on the little screen within the menu. by default, these little screens within the menu shows the very beginning of the videos right? and would play for a number of seconds you specify if you choose the motion menu. since some of my videos start with a black screen, i use the "change thumbnail" funtion of VS so i can see which video is which.

Well well well ... learn something every day!! I hadn't understood that it was on the very first page of the burning module, and that after changing the view in the preview window, you actually clicked on the relevant video clip in the "timeline" of the burning module to change the thumbnail. I had been searching fruitlessly on the second page of the module (where the menu is constructed) for some sort of hidden drop-down menu.

But now I've got it!!! Thanks!!!
