VS10 Closes with no explanation

Post by brucefl »

Working on a few projects, when I play it after say 45 seconds, the program closes with no explanation.I can restart it, work in it, but
it still crashes if I play the project. Starting to get frustrating. I have windows xp.
I noticed an update to 10, how do I know if it is installed,
the help says, 10.0.0110.2 plus,
Ulead dolby digital powerpack 1.0

What format are your video files?

The Read This First post tells you what we need to know in order to help you.

The most compressed formats are the most likely to cause trouble.
All of my crashes have been caused by "bad" video files. (It can be hard to tell, because an audio/video file can play back fine, but cause trouble when you try to edit or convert it.)

I capture the files into VS10. Looking at them, they are avi files. It does not always do it. It can be aggravating. I do notice when it stop in this fashion, when I restart it, that I never get the "do you want to recover" as in a "normal" crash of the program.

I guess I could buy the newest version.

I may also try opening it in VS9 which I still have on the computer, though should uninstall it. I had liked some of the templates in it.
thanks Bruce

You certainly have an updated version of VS10. I have never felt the need to add the update packs/patches, so my VS10+ is shown as 10.0.0110.0.

You still haven't given us the exact properties of your files. Telling us they are 'avi' is a bit like telling someone who asks what you drive, that it is a car. We have no idea what kind. An avi can be uncompressed (huge -- 65 GB per hour), DV/AVI (13 GB per hour) or a highly compressed mpeg-4 type file which uses .avi as its extension (e.g. DivX or XVid).

To get the properties, right click on one of the files either in the timeline or the library pane, and copy ALL of its Properties here please.

Sometimes I do the updates, for possible bug fixes.
Have to forgive me, sometimes I forget to whom I am posting too.
AVI
attributes 24 bits. 720 x 480 4.3
DVI Video Encoder type 1
DV audiot NTSC
29.97 fps, about 16 gigs

If you need anymore let me know. Right click and copy doesn't seem to work.

Problem with tech support there first idea is usually uninstall and reinstall, which isn't always the problem. It might, when I initially opened the program and file, then properties, came back here it closed. When I reopened it, seemed fine.

Thanks Bruce
