I think a fresh install of XP and then a careful install of programmes and testing to see what is causing the trouble. Something I could do without with the amount of work I've got on at the moment.......
Graham,
Try the clean re-installation procedure first

Then just a few ideas - take a look at my
Troubleshooting your computer thread in case there is something there you may have overlooked. I now how time consuming a clean re-install of XP can be.

Clean install done this morning and all patched up again.

Now, let's see how she goes!!!

Clean installs of OS are not really a problem for me, as I do it all the time when testing MS stuff, or other apps, just a pain in the bum if you are in the middle of real work

It sounds like a hardware problem.

Could be a faulty memory chip. Try a sink test or, if you have four RAM modules, remove a pair of sticks and try with just two, then the other two.

I'm not sure it is hardware faulty per se, I'm thinking more conflict with something.

Remember, I have two OS drives, both have WS2 installed on them and one works flawlessly and the other doesn't.

There are far fewer programmes on the OS drive that doesn't work.

I may try installing the programmes and drivers for the new equipment onto the old OS hard drive and see what happens.

It'll have to wait a bit though as I have 8 NTSC tapes to capture and convert to PAL.... then I've got 8 dvds to make

Although making an ISO and then rebooting onto the old OS means I can get the work done, it's just a pain.

It's now one of those things that's crying out to be found, but making me want to have a drink or two!!!!!!!

I had a similar mind boggling problem sometime last year and it turned out to be a faulty hard drive. The normal chkdsk /f didn't find anything so I used chkdsk /R and turned out I had faulty sectors. Ended up replacing the brand new hard drive.

I still can't get my program to work.

As pc has been restarted several times I thought I'd burn a dvd, so it burnt first copy, adn has failed again on second.

I'm off to post some out, so will come back and install all new stuff on the old os and see how it goes.

Is now a good time to try another authoring app :)

Installed drivers for my new hardware and installed edius for editing onto old OS drive.
Moved files from my raid drives, (using newer os) which this drive won't see, to an external drive.
Opened up the project that wouldn't burn earlier and first disc is burning away now.

Wonder what will happen to two and three!!!!!

I'll let you know later.

Number 3 is burning fine, it's got to be something wrong with the set-up on the other os disc.

I'm going to reformat and install just WS2 and see how it works, then start adding the other programmes and check after each one.
