VideoStudio 11 Freeze on Create Disc
Okay, I'll try and be as detailed as possible and hopefully someone can point me in the right direction of solving this issue.
My Ulead VideoStudio 11, when I use the Tools>Create Disc (with or without menus) always "sort-locks" at Total Progress 3%. The time still ticks by, but no progress is ever made.
Detailed Progress:
Converting Video of the title (001/001) 0%
The vstudio.exe is taking 97%-100% of the CPU at this time.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling. No change.
I have VideoStudio 10 on same machine, and when I save the project in VideoStudio 10 format (from VS11) and try to Create the Disc in VS10 --> the video is produced in 3 mins without any issues.

Are you following the Suggested Workflow of first creating a DVD-compatible MPEG-2 file and inserting that at the Create Disc stage, or are you going straight to Create Disc with your project in the timeline?

I'm using the Ulead VideoStudio 11 VideoStudio Editor - Loaded my Project (I've tried many different projects) and then I used the Tools->Create Disc. I've tried with or without menus, and tried burning to CD, DVD, and also just straight to ISO image. They all do the same thing.
Total Progress 3% -> almost immediatly
Detailed Progress:
Converting Video of the title (001/001) 0%
And stays that way for hours, yes, i waited.
As I said before, I can load these same projects right up in Version 10 after saving them and do the exact same thing, and the render/make disc/etc in 2-4 mins.

Try using the Suggested Workflow and see if that fixes it.

I've had the same problem with a project I'm working on, freezing up at the same spot ejantzen describes, at 3%.
In my case, though, the trouble showed up in VS10+; I was unable to render the separate video file there too.
I downloaded the trial version of VS11+ hoping that perhaps the problem would not recur, but it has, in the same way at the same Create Disc "progress" as was the case in VS10+. I get an error with trying to render the video file in VS11+.
I'm just abuot resigned to the fact that I'll have to start entirely over in another product. I had about 20 hours into the editing, and now I've totalled just about that much in trying to find a VS solution.
It's why I'm here in forum... hoping for some success here.
(In VS11+ trial download, I actually was able to render a short clip from the source video into a wmv file successfully)

The point Black Lab is trying to make is this. You capture your video. After editing, you first convert the project (as we recommend) to DVD compatible mpeg-2. You do this by choosing Share > Create Video File > DVD. You do NOT, after editing, go straight to Share > Create Disc.
Once you have your mpeg-2, save your project, then open a new one. Don't worry about a name for it -- the objective is just to clear the timeline.
Then you go to Share > Create Disc, insert your new mpeg-2 into the burning timeline, make your menu and burn. Also, make sure 'do not convert compliant mpeg files' is ticked in the middle of the three icons in the bottom left of the burning screen. You should not have to adjust any of the properties in the burn module. No conversion of video should occur at all in the burning process, apart from making the menu. The only other process is multiplexing the video and audio apart from the actual burn itself.

As I read the Suggested Workflow originally, I thought that I HAD tried the conversion as part of everything I was trying -- because, I'd selected create video file, but it still would kick up an error screen and close down and various points in rendering the timeline.
But after reading more on this forum & then going back to VS11 to have another look at what I'd ACTUALLY been doing, I realized that the file I'd selected to create from the list in the pop up box was NTSC DVD ( 4:3, Dolby Digital 5.1), before.
So this time, I instead selected DVD/VCD/SVCD/MPEG, then from its options, NTSC MPEG2 (720X480, 29.97 fps), so that, from this novice's standpoint, I was actually asking it to create an MPEG2 file specifically.
I confess that I'm not educated enough from readings in this forum yesterday to know if that should have made much of a difference; but for whatever reason, it did! This time, it worked! It rendered it all into a complete MPEG2 file, which I then opened as a new project to burn to DVD. Yay! Never gotten that far before.
Upon trying to get the single MPEG2 file to Create Disc burn, it actually went past the 3% for the first time (yay!). However it then went all the way through the progress bars, ready to burn, and THEN, (as brought up in another message on this forum, I think) gave me an error message and closed down; didn't burn.
That was discouraging, but I was undaunted! I went to another program to try burning from there (actually went with an older intervideo winDVD creator), and it worked wonderfully, burned a disk that plays on both standalone dvd players here at home. Big yays!
So, THANKS from this novice for the Suggested Workflow! I think that I have a better understanding now of how to make it easier for VS, and thus easier on myself!
(now I'll go digging some more in this forum, and elsewhere, to learn more about the other issues i'm having, but with confidence this time!)

FWIW, many of the more experienced users on this forum don't actually burn to a disc from VS. We usually burn to a DVD folder where we can check the funtionality with a pc-based player such as PowerDVD or Windows Media Player.
We then use a third party app, such as Nero, to burn those DVD folders to disc (as VS doesn't provide a way to burn from DVD folders to disc).

Well, I figured out the issue - Not how to fix it, but I can get by with this.
While doing the Create Disc, I changed the Project Settings which Auto Sets to doing Dolby Digital Audio, 48KHz, 2/0(L,R) aka HQ 4:3 (Dolby Digital) to just HQ 4:3 (20min/1.4G, 60min/4.7G, 100min/8.5G)
Boom, everything works fine now.
There seems to be an issue with just using anything with Dolby Digital Audio, at least for me - because its not needed for anything I do.
One question now I have is, How can I keep default Project settings to not auto set to the Dolby Digital? Registery key of some kind?
Thanks again for the help.

You can make a template via Tools > Make Movie Manager.
