Change this Scenes Thumbnail - Crashes

Post by taplinm »

Hi, please can someone help with this very frustrating problem!

I am using Ulead VideoStudio 11 plus and have created a movie and a menu for my DVD. I would like to change the picture for the menu item and there is an option to do this. When right clicking on the selected thumbnail it has the option to 'change this scenes thumbnail'. Great, this is what I need. However, when I do a box comes up with a slider bar in it to enable me to select the scene that I want, but it is frozen. From this point on the whole application is now frozen and I have to use task manager to close it. A couple of times I have managed to change one or two of the thumbnails, but then it freezes again.

I am using Windows XP Home, with 2Gb RAM, 500Gb Hard Disk and 3.6Ghz P4. Plenty of power.

I have tried this with the trial version of MovieFactory 6 and it works ok. I have also installed the trial version of Ulead VideoStudio 11 plus on another of my computers and it too crashes with the same problem.

I have also installed a trial version of Ulead Video Studio 11 plus on my new Laptop with Windows Vista Home Premium and that too has the same problem!

Is this therefore a UVS 11 plus problem, or is there something I can do to get this to work?

I would really appreciate any help or advice,

Thanks

Hi,

Thanks for your reply.

I select the 'Create Disk' option, which gives me the screen to create chapters etc, which I have already done. I then click on 'Next', which gives me the first page of my menu, with the initial thumbnails on it. It is here that the problem occurs.

I can go through my menu pages (I have 6 in all, each with three thumbnails on them, with the last having just one), and select ANY of the thumbnails and the crash occurs when I right click on the thumbnail and select 'change this scenes thumbnail'.

Rather strangely, sometimes, and here I mean 1 attempt in 5, something like that, I can change the thumbnail in two and sometimes three scenes, and then it crashes. But this is only 1 on approx. 5 times, the other times it crashes immediately.

As I mentioned in my last post I have tried this on three different computers (one runnung Vista) all with the same result. However, I have installed the trial version of MovieFactory 6 and it works ok. However, with MovieFactory 6 all of my effort (weeks of it) are lost as the projects aren't compatible, so I can't use this, save re-creating weeks of work, which I just don't have the time (or energy!) to do.

Please let me know if you can help in any way.

Thanks.

try this one. in the page where you have created chapters, (right before you click next), you could see a preview screen on the right side of the window, and your video clips at the bottom. click on your video clip, then on the preview window, slide the jog slider to your desired scene then right-click on your video clip and select "change thumbnail". do this with your other clips then, when you're already satisfied, click next to proceed to choose your desired menu template.

let me know if this method works for you...i hope it will... :D

Hi,

Thanks for your advice, I have now had the opportunity to try what you have suggested.

I can indeed change the thumbnail the way you have said, however, I am only presented with one thumbnail at the bottom, which represents the whole movie, not sixteen, which would represent each of the chapters. Is there a way to show all sixteen chapter start points at the bottom? If so, this might work.

Thanks, your advice is really appreciated.

I suspect that the crashing has to do with your workflow. Whilst it is possible to go straight to the Create Disc option, it is not recommended. Before trying to burn your DVD, first turn your project into a video file. This is done in the Share step, Create Video File.

This does take a while to do, however looking at the problems you're having, it may not be all that long. Generally it takes about 1-1½ times of your video.

Once you have your video file created, then clear the timeline by selecting File menu, New project. With an empty timeline, go to the Share step, Create Disc. Then insert your newly created DVD compliant MPEG2, and build your menus.
