UL 11 wont capture from samsung vp-d101 - just crashes
Hi there hope you guys can help.
Nature of the problem:
I have a Samsung vp-d101 mini dv camcorder. when i try to capture the footage i have on to VS it begisn the process and after about 5 seconds worth of copying it stops and disconnects the device from wondows.
Properties of your source files (format, file size, where did you get it?):
Recorerd direct from the camera on to a mini dv tape. It is almost a full 60 min tape. and i recoreded it myself.
What devices are involved and their mode of connection?
I use a Fire wire cable in to a firewire card directly to the camera.
Project Settings
Dont really know all settings are default. I've tried cahign the format capture from vcd to mpeg but i dont really know the diffrence.
Output format (file, DVD, VCD, SVCD)
Again as above i tried vcd and mpeg. i want to put this on to a dvd for the rest of the family but i wnat to edit it frist what is the best format.
PAL or NTSC
PAL
Error Codes (if any)
None
Thanks guys and all help is appreciated

Welcome to the forums,
VS11 should not have any problems capturing (transferring) DV. However VS11 will not capture analog, video, even if your using a mini-DV or DV machine.
This is a bug, that Corel is well aware of, and is suppose to be fixed, when they release a Service Pack.
I mention this because the symptoms you describe, are very similar to the analog capture problem.

If your source video is coming from a VCR it is analog. If you are using an analog tape in a DV camcorder, then of course it is analog.
It gets kinda tricky or confusing. When you capturing using a mini-dv or Digital 8 camcorder, and you're transferring via firewire, and you're capture settings are set to DV, then you would think that VS could not determine the actual source video is analog. However put an analog tape in a DV camcorder and VS11 will not allow it. We think it has to do with VS being able to control the device, however this is not true, if an analog tape is being used. VS can still control the camera.
Is the video you're trying to capture, recorded by your mini-dv camcorder, or are you just using the camcorder as a pass-through, to get the video onto your computer?
If it is DV, then try a free capture/transfer utility called WinDV. Ken Berry and I both use it. Once your video is captured (transferred), then you can insert the video into VS11 for editing.
If WinDV will not work, then we also know that there is a problem outside of VS.
When will a patch be released??? Well don't hold your breath for the near future. It maybe Christmas before they release it...

Then you have a problem with either your camera, firewire cable or firewire port.
First make sure your connections are secure, by pushing gently to make sure they are seated. Then turn on your camcorder, put it in playback mode. Windows should recognize this, and ask if you want to capture using whatever program(s) it has associated with capturing.
If Windows does recognize your camcorder, then launch your program, either VS11 or WinDV. They should also be able to see the camcorder.

So VS 11 recognises your camera but you can only capture for 5 seconds. Is that correct?
You mentioned you have a firewire. Is this a PCI slot card? I find these better than a Firewire port connect to the MB through a cable.
And I am sure once VS11 recognises your camcorder you can control the camcorder's Play, FF & RW from VS 11 (i.e. Camcorder is in Play mode rather than PC mode)
