Dual head output
Dual head output
I've just acquired a new 'puter for dedicated video work and it came with a NVidia GeForce 7300 dual head card. Everything works hunky-dory except that I cannot seem to get my Preview window duplicated into the second monitor when scrubbing or previewing. Natch, I've set dual head in the Preview menus. Has anyone encountered this problem?

Hi Devil. I use a Matrox triple head card and have no problems. I don't know your card and can only guess. I know from my research prior to getting the Matrox card that many "dual head" cards are not able to output the video overlay. They are ok for normal work where you want to spread your desktop over two monitors but do not offer the video overlay feature needed to put the preview window on a separate monitor. I actually view my previews (output from MSP
on a standard TV set which I have next to my PC monitor. Helps me to keep my titles from being cut off by the overscan area as well
Thanks, Heinz. I fear you are right but I can't afford another graphics card, especially at Matrox prices and lack of service (had my fingers burnt twice by them
)
I can drag the Preview window onto the secondary screen, but it is not a user-friendly method.
As for TV monitoring, I do that through my ADVC-100 box. Works great.

I just picked up a low-end dual-core Toshiba laptop with an integrated Intel video card that doesn't support overlay and ran into Devil's problem. But, all of my other video cards (ATIs) do support the overlay and work fine, so this is probably what is happening to Devil...heinz-oz wrote:Hi Devil. My work environment sounds pretty close to yours - I preview on a 13" TV set I have on the side of my desk (using the overlay feature).

OK, thanks, guys.
I've compromised on a workaround. Using Alt-1 (standard layout) and Alt-2 (2-screen) keys, I can quickly switch layouts. I think I can live with this, but would have preferred the overlay method.
Just got a message from the graphics card maker and he confirms that Matrox are better for this application, but I had no choice

Devil,
I use the Leadtek WinFast Nvidia 7600 GT TDH HDTV 256MB DDR3 video card and have no problems with dualhead in MSP.
Follow these steps for Nvidia software setup:
http://www.weethet.nl/english/video_pc2tv_nvidia.php
** Make sure to enable for "Full Screen Device" you set "Secondary display" and check "Track overlay rotation".
Then follow this guide from Ulead for MSP setup.

I tried it. It works fine for scrubbing but does not seem to work for either preview or instant preview because the LCD monitor does not support TV resolution (720x576/25 or 360x288 resp.). I guess it would work if the secondary screen were a TV connected to TV-out, but that is not my case.
