Editing time too long

Post by Lancelot46 »

Hey guys, I have a question, the other day I did a dvd from footage that was in my computer and it took the whole process about 5 hours...is that normal?
The movie was an hour and a half long and came from my camcorder mini dv. I have a Amd processor, 1.81 mghz with 1meg ram and os Windows XP proffesional service pac 2. Although the dvds I burn works fine, It's just that I'd like to know if there is a shorter way to do it without lacking in quality...
Oh by the way, I use VIDEOSTUDIO 10 full copy!
thank you all!!! :D :D

With that sort of computer power, your rendering time (which is what I assume you are really talking about) sounds about right, or at least in the ball park. Less well resourced computers can take up to 4 or 5 times real time to render from DV to mpeg-2. In other words, to render one hour of video might take 4 or 5 hours to render.

If you click on my System button, you will see my computer specifications. With that, which is only middle of the road or less these days, it takes me between 1.25 to 1.5 times real time to render, depending on the complexity of the editing I have done to the project.

The only real of speeding up the process is to improve the computing capacity of your computer, or buy a new one!

Whoever said video editing was supposed to be quick???

Don't forget to get some extra RAM as well  and a separate HDD for the rendering and OS also helps.

This users breakdown of the time involved is not untypical of the time many of us spend on our movies:
Newbie tale of 50th wedding anniversary video in 2 weeks.

In fact I am nearing completion of my Recent 2 week cruise. The finished item will last approx 90 minutes and includes a mix of slide shows and video.
I haven't kept a log but I have been doing a few hours here and a few hours there and the cruise ended some 3 months ago.

:) :)
