Thanks Ken
I think I am now with you and it seems that I have always edited these video clips incorrectly as I have never 'Saved Trimmed Video' after each cut. I have merely cut the clips I wish to edit and deleted the parts not wanted before mov ing on to the next clip. I presume I have just been lucky that previous videos have not been of this size or duration.

I have tried to correct this now on one of the 'saved' projects (.VSP). This is the first half of the long video which I know runs for approx 1hr 30mins but is shown in project duration as 2hr 32.24.02, as I mentioned in my initial query.

I selected a number of the video clips and used the 'saved trimmed video' on each one. I then deleted the original clips and dragged down the new 'trimmed' clips from the video library to replace them.
Unfortunately the project duration remained at 2.32.24.02 even though I appeared to have deleted several minutes from the whole project.

Does this indicate that once I have 'saved' a project I cannot replace these virtual cuts with real cuts?

Is my only option to re-do the project from the origial library clips, using the 'Saved trimmed Video' option, deleting the original clips and replacing with the trimmed clips, prior to 'saving the project as....' ??

Many thanks for your patience
Mark

First, Video Studio should in fact work using virtual cuts alone. I don't use that method, though, because I had problems unrelated to your own when I used only the virtual clips without using Save Trimmed Video to make real, new ones.

That being said, I am not sure how to account for the fact that your project duration still shows an incorrect longer duration. The only thing I can think of is that even though you have made some changes, there is some video from the original video which you have not cut or used Save Trimmed Video on. In other words, VS still see the entire original video as part of the project. That sounds a little improbable to me since virtual cuts are supposed to behave the same as real cuts. But it is all I can think of.

To test it, start a new project with a blank timeline. Drag and drop the newly Saved Trimmed Video clips into the timeline. What is the project duration now?

Thankls Ken.
Yes I don't understand the time thing either as the original clips totalled 5hr 20mins and we cut that down to around 3hr and 3mins. It was trying to halve the 3 hr version that threw up the peculiar time; identical for both halves. This was also the case for the 3 to 4 minute cut at the very end.
I will start again but it will take me a while as I have to replicate exactly the cuts I made to each clip first time around. These were originally chosen by my daughter as the video is of her daughter's first year.
I will let you know in due course how it pans out. I've taken screen shots of all the clips and am in the process of notating start and finish times on each one.
Once I've done that I'll start over.
Sorry for the earlier misunderstandings, it's the first time in 3 years I've encountered this problem. Having said that all my earlier , longer, DVDs were made using VS9 so maybe that did a better job of recognising the virtual cuts. I've only used VS10 for a few very short DVDs of between 5 and 30 minutes.
I will be back !!
All the best
Mark
