Error 'Drive not ready'

Post by Ken Berry »

I have just received this private email. I have reminded the sender of Forum policy that such message should not be sent to the helpers on the Board.
Hi Ken.
I hope you can help with my 'Ulead Videostudio 8' problem.
I have created a file of my holiday and proceeded through the various steps to burning a DVD. On the final stage of burning a Ulead pop up appears 'Drive is not ready'
I have already created and successfully burnt part of my holiday to DVD with no problems.

If you can you guide me in the right direction. It will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Bernard Sloane
That sort of message usually appears when there is some form of packet-writing software operating on your computer. That is software which allows you to drag and drop any files you like to the burner drive icon, where they accumulate until there are enough to fill a CD or DVD. Such software includes the InCD module of the Nero suite, and a similar program in the Roxio suite, plus a host of other stand-alone applications. In effect, the software 'reserves' the burner drive for its own purposes and denies access to it by other programs such as Video Studio.

If you have InCD on your system, you have to uninstall it (not the whole Nero suite -- InCD appears as a separate program in Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs). The Roxio one can be suspended internally.

If this is not the cause, then have you added any other programs or made any other hardware changes to your computer since you successfully burned the previous project?

In addition to the above, try a different disc in case you have a faulty one.
Failing that please view DVD burning/playback problems
