I have several "Smart Sound" disks for background music.
I was able to access them in the Studio 8 trial program, but I can't see how to do so in the Media Pro 7 trial program. I did searches in help on "Smart" in both the editor and the audio editor but could not find anything on this.

MSP7 did not come with "SmartSound" (unfortunately).

Wonhead,
If you have smartsound disks you most probably have smartsound SonicFire Pro software as well.

As far as I know, smartsound was accessible from Studio 9 Plus not Studio 8. Furthermore, the smartsound version for Pinnacle Studio is a special version (plug-in version) that can only be used with Studio.

In any cases, a smartsound file can be renamed into a .wav file and you will be able to use it. However, if you absolutely need to get the audio file to fit exactly your video lenght then, you will need smartsound SonicFire Pro program.

Cheers,
Bernard

Videostudio 8

I thought he meant Ulead's VideoStudio 8 (which I believe also had smartsound), not Pinnacle Studio 8 (which I know nothing about).

Geroge,
You are probably right.
I may have confused because I did read "studio" and not "video studio".
Indeed, there is also a version for Ulead Video Studio.
In any case, if he has some CD with music on it, then he shall be able to rename the smartsound file into .wav and then import as audio file into MSP.

I first started using Smart Sound with Pinnacle Studio 8, then with 9, then with 9 Plus. What I love about it and would hate to give up is the ability to generate background music to a specific length with out even knowing what that length is.... I just drag it untill it covers the clips I want it to. It's got a nice start and a nice end, as if it was custom made.

I downloaded the trial for Ulead Studio 8 and it does support Smart Sound.

I downloaded the trial for MediaStudio Pro and would love to have all the additional features, and the apparent increased speed in rendering over the previously mentioned 2 products, but it does not have Smart Sound.

I realize I could generate the files outside MSP, and maybe that's what I'll end up doing, but does ulead have any similar product to do what Smart Sound does, but inside of the software, as with Studio 8?

By the way, I'm completely done with Pinnacle - I've been chasing good money after bad for too long now. Either I find another editor or I give up editing all together.

Wonhead,
Currently, Ulead has nothing similar to smartsound that is integrated (as plug-in) with MediaStudio PRO. So, your only alternative would be to use an external software as suggested.

I am personally a user of Smartsound and use SonicFire PRO.
I do not see any problem building my sound file (to be used as background) with this external software prior to import the file into MediaStudio Pro. Furthermore, I found that there are more possibility (as far as possible music arrangement) with SonicFire Pro then the plug-in.
(P.S. I only have experience with the plugin included with Pinnacle Studio 9 Plus)

Check on Smartsound site for upgrade of your plugin to SonicFire PRO.
You may download a trial version if you want to so you will be able to judge by yourself.

Last comment ...
Unless I am wrong, all other similar pro video editing software (Adobe Premiere, Pinnacle Liquid Edition, Canopus, Avid, etc. do not have any similar smartsound plugin either.

Cheers,
Bernard
