DVD menu: Make text visible when selected

Post by DLA »

I am a user of VS11+ and PI12. How can I make the duration of a title (or any other text in fact) appear next to it when the title is selected ?

I'm not sure I understand the question. You want to see how long the duration is of a Text title?

If that is what you are asking. you can adjust the duration manually by clicking in the timer box (near where Project duration is stated). Or you can see how long a clip is on the timeline.

I read the question as asking whether, in the menu, there is some way, when you highlight a menu button, a message will appear telling how long that particular piece of video (i.e. "title" in the correct sense) runs for. Or more generally (the second part of the question) whether the name of the video or other text will only appear on the menu when the button is selected.

If that is correct, I don't think it can be done in any version of Video Studio. But I will be interested in hearing from others who think it can... I am not even sure it can be done in Movie Factory or DVD Workshop either...

If Ken is right then the only way I can think of doing this in ANY DVD authoring program is to create a purpose built DVD menu (With PhotoImpact) and use the highlight image option. You would then have to create a highlight image for each item on the menu - which obviously could not spill over into 2nd and subsequent pages.

The individual highlight image for each individual button would be a text box containing the information you want to display. Perhaps quite a bit of work involved but then Einstein had a famous phrase

I wouldn't say ANY DVD Authoring program -- there are other programs that let you build this type of effect on-the-fly...

You could make highlight images of just TEXT, and in DVD Workshop just use them as the Highlight image :)

Hi guys,

Ken, you understood my question correctly. I understand that DVD Workshop could do it with text created as image. I don't have DVD Workshop. Can I do this with VS11+ and PI12 ?

As for Steve's not about the 2nd page, I don't need the second page. My DVD menu containt a single page.

Like I said, I think you need to create a purpose built menu.
You can use an existing DVD Menu and alter it, or build one from scratch.
