SD and HD video

Post by three_stripes13 »

I have edited together an HD movie and want to include within it a video I previously did in Standard Definition. The program wants to stretch the SD video to fit the width of the HD screen. Is there a way of mixing the two so that the SD video will retain the 4:3 format?

In Preferences-Edit tab, set:
- default display aspect: source frame size
- default stretch mode: keep aspect ratio (this is what does auto-letterboxing entire projects)

Set your project settings for your target aspect ratio (eg 16:9 for your mainly HD widescreen movie.)
make sure the above prefs are set, THEN import any new clips.

If some clips still don't resize right, (eg any ones you already imported to the project), select them, and right-click, and select "Source media options"...
here, do the same Stretch mode selection, "Keep aspect ratio".

- make sure that project settings have "Non-Square pixel rendering" is enabled, else the stretch mode selection will be grayed out and unavailable.)

You can also try using a moving path on the 4:3 material, checking the keep aspect ratio box. This also allows you to put the material in whatever corner/place you wish.
