VideoStudio - Audio Noise - Trying to identify and filter.

Post by aliendaddy »

Nature of the problem:
I have a short news clip in Quicktime format. It was captured on a Mac. It has noise in the audio track that I want to try and eliminate, but first I want to identify what kind of noise it is.

The clip is in YouTube now, so if you want to have a look/listen, please do. To me it sounds like 60 cycle hum, but I am no expert. It just sounds like a lousy TV.

Can any of the experts identify my noise? Can you recommend a filter?

Properties of your source files:
quicktime (.mov)

Project Settings:
I imported the clip into my project, split the audio out and have attempted to filter it with Noise Reduction, to no avail.

Output format:
Hopefully mpg without the noise.

PAL or NTSC:
NTSC

I don't think VS will do it for you. It's pretty light on the audio editing side. Try an app like Audacity (it's free). As long as you have an isolated snippet of the noise you should be able to filter it out.

Brilliant suggestion!

I downloaded and installed Audacity, extracted the audio track, sampled the noise ( for about 0.5 seconds) then applied the noise filter. I reintegrated the audio track back in, and the noise was gone.

thank you very much.
