The clips appear as a white box with a cross

Post by gonzo2 »

I've been working in a big (for me) project of about 89 GB.

I've worked with multiple timelines,

when i've tries to increase the number of timelines above 8 or nine suddenly the program crassed.

I decided to make a copy of the project and I saved it with another name, once I opened the new one I realized that part or all (I've tested it several times) of the trimmed clips that I classified in the project tray became white boxes with a cross on them.

Luckly the original project is still complete but i' affraid it will be corrupted anytime.

The only additional commment is that I have only 83 GB left on mi HDD (I don't know if this has any consequences).

any idea?

Media Studio pro 8, videos DV avi, wix xp, 1 GB ram

Hi
saving it under another name shouldn't cause the loss of contents. Have you tried to open these white boxes with crosses? Maybe these clips need to be re-linked to the originals.

I've only had a complete crash of a large project (large for me that is) once and couldn't recover any of it. Since then I've always saved my larger projects with a copy under another saved name and continually alternate saves to both original and the copy.
Thanks & regards.

Thanks Gra,

If tried to double click and right click to relink but they don't give me any option to relink.

the clips that I loose are virtual clips, that means, I have a large cli that y cut on the timeline in little parts and I copy this little parts in the library (so they are not real clips on my HDD).

When I save with anorther name normally some of them are not accessible and some are is like if the program lost the way for some of them.

The first crash that I talked about in my first post had its origin in the ufclib.dll . Does this tell you something?

thanks in advance,

If the clip is virtual, it is just that: it doesn't exist, so it can't relink. I suggest you make each one a real clip, which you can import into your new main timeline.
