VS11 & PC dreammachine
Hello,
I purchased VS11 plus because of my new Sony HDR CX6.
I can capture the HD video allright and use proxi to be able to edit on my PC. I use smart package.
Some observations:
- Smart package does not remember my produced proxi files and have to create them everytime I restart VS11. This is very time consuming!
- Cannot mute the sound of the original video. I put music on a soundtrack. The original video sound and music are both played...
- What would be a VS11 plus HD video dream PC for editing without proxi (proxi = too clumsy)?
I use XP pro on a Acer L310, Intel Core 2 CPU 4300 1,8 GHz, Intel 946 GHz Express Video. 2 GB RAM
I read that Intel Pentium 4 at 3 GHz Hyperthreating, 16x PCI Express display adapter for non proxi HD video editing is required.
What brands/models match this?
Kind regards,
Ivy

Re: VS11 & PC dreammachine
There is a sound mute button. If for some reason this isn;t working for you try splitting the sound from the video then deleting the sound file (if you don;t need it).
That'sa nice PC you have there!

Acer PC310 is not good enough for HD
Hello Clevo,
The Acer PC310 is not good enough for HD editing!
Proxi files are not "remembered" when you restart VS11
Sound mute does not work... I don't want to split video & sound, why should I, VS11 should do this when selecting the mute button. I want to keep the original HD video untouched.
I guess these are bugs in VS11
Kind Regards,
Ivy

Yes, there are. But if in fact you find you *can* split audio and video, and delete the separated audio file, you will also find -- at least with SD video -- that in fact you haven't deleted anything, as the original audio is still there and the mute button (normally) is turned on. So after all, just by toggling that mute button you can (normally) restore your original audio...
Can't comment on the proxy files aspect as I don't have a HD camera and so have never used the smart proxy facility.

testing Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 platinum
I am now testing Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 platinum which behaves great on my current Acer desktop PC L310.
Maybe I have to buy this program if the VS11+ problems don't get solved.
The money I spent on VS11+ is then total loss... (sad)
An alternative is buying a more powerfull PC at around 1100 Euro!
I have send my questions to Ulead/Corel.
Kind regards,
Ivy

Proxy files need to be completely generated, after VS generates the file completely it will not be deleted. The creation of a proxy file can take hours, sort of defeats the purpose of creating a proxy file.- Smart package does not remember my produced proxi files and have to create them everytime I restart VS11. This is very time consuming!
A good program but it's not dedicated to avchd editing (it supports avchd Sony cams only). The only consumer program I've used so far that you can edit and also output in the avchd format is Nero 7 ultra edition enhanced.am now testing Sony Vegas Movie Studio 8 platinum which behaves great on my current Acer desktop PC L310.
But using VS or VMS you should be able to make DVD's or HD-DVD's & create hd-mpeg2 video(s). With Nero you can create avchd disks. But either way you need a HD certified computer to effectively work with these HD formats..
If you have to spring for a new machine I would take a look at the new Intel Q6600 quad processor with a HD certified video card. Pretty powerful computer for HD video & should keep up for a few years.
don't know what to do yet
hello etech6355,
The Proxi files are there alright. I have them on an other disk partision. For some reason when I restart VS11+ the litle "proxi" mark on the thumbnail picture has disapeared...
I am not looking to output HD DVD's. I use InterVideo WINDVD 8 to look at the HD movie. The HD DVD is on a NAS. I use an Acer mediacenter PC attached to my plasma screen.
My plasma screen is not HD but why not start filming (Sony HDR CX6), edit HD and store on the NAS.
In the future the multimedia hardware will become more afordable.
The VMS8 program is not as easy to use as VS11+ but works on my current - recently bought - Acer L310.
Hopefully Ulead/Corel solve the proplems, also the audio mute...
These companies are just under constant time pressure to release programs which are not realy ready for HD
Ciao,
Ivy

Your plasma must have a hd connection (hdmi). You can take a look at a PS3 (playstation 3) which is a nice media player. Also the latest updates lets you stream video from a uPnP server. You should be able to plug your hd-media card(s) into the PS3's media slots and play the videos directly. I can play the avchd disks from sony cams and homemade ones, the PS3 plays them without any hitches.
I don't think that the avchd format is a good recording choice if you plan to edit the videos the same as many have done using dv tape cams. A better choice would be a hd-cam that records in the hd-mpeg2 format (tape). Sottware is definitely up to date for editing this hd-mpeg2 format that's written to tape. I also use VS to work with the hd-mpeg2 files directly on a 2.8Ghz P4 machine (not dual-core) without a problem, no need to use proxy files.
Good luck with your new cam, I would think you could connect it directly up to your plasma TV and view the videos.

one problem solved
Hello,
The Sony HDR CX6 can record HD at 4 different resolutions
i used HD XP which is 15 M pixels(?) and could not do without using VS11+ proxy. (good for 30 minutes on a 4 GB memory stick pro duo)
Now I tried the next best thing HD HQ at 9 M pixels(?) which works fine in VS11+ without proxi on my Acer L310! (good for 55 minutes on a 4 GB memory stick pro duo)
Of course I will contintue to use HD HQ, I could not see the quality difference on the PC screen (high resolution) and as a bonus I can record more on the memory stick pro duo.
Now let's see what I do wrong with the sound mute in VS11+

Hi,
MBS = MegaBits_Per_Second, so the higher the bit-rate the better the quality.
This is usually expressed in video editors as kbs (Kilo_Bits_Per_Second), adding 3 zero's.
You would be able to see the difference on a big screen HDTV versus a smaller screen HDTV.
BTW - Your video files that are 15MBS are the same as HD-Mpeg2 (HDV) @25MBS (25000kbs).
You can search the VS & MF forums on how to convert these files to hd-mpeg2 for easier editing.

latest experiences
Hello,
I am back in using proxi files for editing. This is working fine now, I am still learning how to use VS11+.
Also I am able to adjust the sound of each individual sequence, again I am learning VS11+.
The more I know about the program, the more I like it!
I am able to import AVCHD, edit it using proxi and output to DVD or HD DVD folders for video streaming on my (still DVD resolution) plasma screen.
A first movie I made (low resolution at youtube):

So far so good...
