DVD movie Factory 6 plus Power failure error

Post by remind »

Hi all,
I'm running Vista 32 bit and DVD movie Factory 6 plus
When it got to burn a 8.5gb dvd, I got this error message
I read up about it and found out it could be drive or media, well drive is a brand new one and I changed DVD 8.5gb size and same thing ahppened again.

What else could I check?

Thanks
Phil

Are you saying it works OK with single-layer discs?

Whenever you start a new burn, the drive performs a little test-burn to adjust the laser power. When it fails, it's usually called a "power calibration error". I think this what's happening to you.

You could try a different brand of blank disc, or perhaps just a different "batch". (Experimenting/troubleshooting with dual layer discs can get expensive! )

I believe the power calibration process is controlled at the firmware/driver level, so I don't think it has anything to do with Movie Factory. But, you can try some other burning software* to make sure it's not a Movie Factory problem. (Your burner probably came with it's own software if you don't have some already.)

If you have "drag & drop" burning software on your computer, it can take-over your drive and prevent Movie Factory from burning. (I wouldn't expect this to cause a "power failure", but it's somehting to consider.)

If it doesn't work with different discs and different software, then the new burner is probably bad.

* There is a way to create a copy of the DVD on your hard drive, so that you can burn multiple copies or use different burning software:

Un-check the box that says "Create to Disc," and check the box that says "Create DVD Folders".

What Dual-Layer Media are you using?
It took me quite a few burns to find the correct media that would work properly in my dvd burner. I can burn most of the dvd-r / dvd+r disks single layer but burning dual-layer is a different ball game with my burner. Seems like these dvd burners are very picky when it comes to dual-layer burning.

Power Calibration error

Hi and thanks for the replies.
Yes that is the error.
It is doing it on Duel Layer TDK brand. 8.5gb selected.
I'll try it with a 4.7 disc and see.
Never had this problem on previous PC usinf same version of DVD movie Factory
I did get a dual layer to burn okay using Windows DVD maker that comes with Vista pre installed although it would not play back on my dvd player connected to TV, yet a 4.7gb one did. Sounds like TDK duel layer's are fussy or my dvd burner and dvd player connected to TV is.
Now I think about it last year Ulead release for XP a patch for duel layer burning which I still have, does anyone know if that was XP only?
I'll see if it installs in Vista 32bit, as now I recall that solved a similar problem

Player connect to tv is a Panasonic dvd recorder, and I must admit I would never buy one again, even though I have run a dvd cleaner disc in it, it doesn't read any ram discs I put in it, even brand new Panasonic ones. But that is for another topic and forum.

I use Alcohol for the other point you made DVD DOUG

Previous System was a Dimension 9150 and this is a XPS 710, both Dell's
I'll get myself another brand of Duel layer and see what happens

Sure sounds like your panasonic dvd recorder needs to be repaired. My panasonic dvd recorders work great. Don't know how old your panasonic unit is but mine are older and cannot play +R format unless I change the "Booktype" to Dvd-Rom. So burning straight dual-layer dvd+r dl dvd's don't work in my pana players. I use Nero to burn the dvd's which can also change the "BookType".

Check the Panasonic website for updated firmware for your DVD burner.
Even though its 'New' you don't know how long its been in the shop/warehouse.

I once had to replace my DVD Burner for another from the same shop and it was the same make but the model was slightly different. I knew my system was OK because until the original burner developed a fault (foreign object got stuck inside) I had no problems burning discs.

When I came to use the 'new' burner (bought from a famous nationwide High Street Store) I had problems burning. I checked my manufacturers website and sure enough there was some updated firmware. Installed it and had no problems thereafter.

Hi

The Panasonic is a dvd recorder that connects to a TV, not the computer version.
So can one tte firmware onto it how would you upload the firmware to the unit?

Thanks

2 Problems:
1 - Your dvd burner in the computer..
2 - Your playback device (dvd player).
The Panasonic is a dvd recorder that connects to a TV, not the computer version.
So can one tte firmware onto it how would you upload the firmware to the unit?
Follow panasonic's instructions: Download latest firmware and put on a cd. Insert cd into pana recorder & turn on.
BUT, this is truly jumping the gun. ALL Panasonic dvd recorders can record & playback to dvd-ram disks that are compatible with the recorder. Maybe you are using 3X or 5X ram disks that aren't compatible?. I don't understand when you say won't playback dvd ramdisks. Playback what? You can't burn a video based dvd-ramdisk on the computer without going through alot of work preping the ramdisk (formmating in udf format), then writing to it in the -VR format.

Sorry, you don't provide enough information.
