Hi there!
I want to author a DVD with 9 SVCDs with about 450 MB each.
DVD MF shows 3,92 GB with 8 files and when adding the 9th one it's too big for a 4,45 GB disc of course. MF let me choose to try fitting it although - but then the 9th svcd has a poor bitrate of about 1500 kbit/s whereas the other ones have between 2500 and 3000 kbit/s. So this is really inadmissible.
To find out a solution I burned only 8 SVCDs and checked the disc size in the windows explorer. The size was not about 3,92 GB as estimated by MF but only 3,80 GB - in my case this is a big difference: 3800 MB + 450 MB = 4,25 GB ==> all 9 files are fitting!!!
So please, is there any chance to trick MF - the only problem is the wrong estimation!!!
Thank you and sorry for my bad english, I'm from Germany.
Problem with DVD size estimation --> not exactly enough
The file sizes and bitrates on the original SVCDs do not matter. The file size on the DVD depends on the bitrate and playing time for the final DVD, and this is determined by your Project Settings. For example, your 450MB SVCD file will double in size if the DVD's bitrate is double that of the SVCD. (Your 9th SVCD has a longer playing-time than the others, and it is taking-up more space on the DVD.)
Heres' an online Bit Rate Calculator.

Yes. You can "burn" your project to your hard drive (where it won't be limited to the size of a single-sided DVD). Then, you can copy the AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS folders to an actual DVD (if they will fit). To do that, un-check the box that saysCreate to Disc, and check the box that says Create DVD folders. If the resulting files are too big, you can start-over with a lower bitrate setting, or you can use DVDshrink. So please, is there any chance to trick MF - the only problem is the wrong estimation!!!

Yes you're right in principal but not in my case. The SVCDs I have converted are DVD compliant and so they aren't recoded by MF. This only happens if the 9th file is added. The disc size is a little bit too big then and MF suggests to try fitting the project to correct dvd size(4,35 GB). And then it recodes the 9th file to a low quality file of about 1500 kbit/s whereas the other 8 files aren't recoded and have the correct bitrate.DVDDoug wrote:The file sizes and bitrates on the original SVCDs do not matter. I hope it was understandable enough now.
Thanks for this hint...it sounds logical...it doesn't work though. MF again suggests to fit the project to the disc size and create a low quality 9th file. What a nonsense!!!Yes. But I have now found a solution for myself:There are some templates for the output disc size ... I simply setted it from 4,35 GB to 8,5 GB. Now it doesn't suggest anymore ans the final product fits on a 4,35 GB medium
Thanks for your help anyway!!!
