Hi
Like all the other people having problems with HDV I am pretty frustrated with Ulead VS11+. I have read all the Q's on capturing from a Sony HDR HC3 But I still cannot get it work: I get the dreaded message: "Cannot switch to capture mode, check your driver".
I can use HDSplit to capture fine and it used to work in VS10+!!!!! But I want to be able to capture in VS11+ since I paid good money for it and Ulead's tech support is next to useless!
Can some one please answer the following on their setup if they have HDV capture working:
1: What driver are you using "AV/C Tape Device" or "Sony D-VHS" or another driver? (currently using "Sony D-VHS" as this was the only way to get it to work with VS10+)
2: a) What options are available in your Tools/Select Device Control?
2: b) Which one should I select (currently 1384 HDV Control)?
3: a) What options are available in your Tools/Change Capture Plugin?
3: b) Which one should I select (currently only IVI Capture Component is Available)?
4: a) What options are available in your Source? (I only have "Sony AV/C Tape Device" which does not work, although when I select it the camera initialises and goes in Play/Pause mode!)
5: What is in your Hercap.ini file?
Mine is pretty blank:
[CAPTURE_PLUGIN]
CurrentPlugin=0
CurrentDriver=0
DriverName=
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=DswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=
CapturePluginPath4=
CapturePluginPath5=
CapturePluginPath6=
CapturePluginPath7=
CapturePluginPath8=
[CAPTURE_SETTING]
ForceToUsePreviewMode=1
DisablePreviewAudioForDV=0
6: Some hercap.ini files contain the following:
CapturePluginPath1=VfwUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath2=DswUleadMpegCap.dll
CapturePluginPath3=HotPlug.dll
CapturePluginPath4=SonyMVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath5=WMFCap.dll
CapturePluginPath6=DswUleadMP4Cap.dll
CapturePluginPath7=HDVCap.dll
CapturePluginPath8=DVBTCapPlug.dll
Where are all these files and where can we get them???
7: Can you suggest anything to try to get this crap sw working??
thanks

You are not alone!
Capturing does appear to have some bugs in VS 11+.
I have exactly your problem with:
"Unable to switch to capture mode. Check if your video capture driver is working properly 15023:4:2". The Capture Video icon is greyed out but the Sony HD Device is recognised and I can control the camera with the play buttons from VS 11+.
Interesting I can't capture either from the digital signal from The DVBT card (Medion - Phillips 7134 Hybrid capture card) but can capture the analogue signal from the analogue tuner on the same card.
There are people around that are capturing successfully from the HC3 with VS 11+.
You mention that you had VS 10+ installed presumably on the same computer - same with my setup. It could be that we have remnants from this install that is annoying VS11+ ( though i use Total Uninstall for all my program installs so that I can get rid of the stuff left behind by incomplete uninstalls).
Could this be a windows XP bug as I believe a a new capture process was introduced with VS 11+ compared to 10+
My Setup is
Sony HDR-HC3
Medion 8800 Desktop computer
Intel 3.00Ghz
1 GB Ram
Windows XP SP2
Uninstalled VS 10+ &SP1 prior to installing VS 11+
This computer is not connected to the net and is used for nothing else than editing and authoring my HC3 video.
Will persist awhile to see if a solution is forthcoming, if not will restore back to VS 10+.
Does VS 11+ add any useful features for a HC3 (HD MPEG2 program stream) for someone using windows XP Pro SP2?
Corel's support now needs to kick into action.

There is some information posted about VS10 capture problem, it may help you figure out your problem. It seems if you have another capture device installed some of the .dlls are overwritten when you install a new version of Video Studio.

The second to the last post is the work around.

Question: Operating system = XP or Vista?I can use HDSplit to capture fine and it used to work in VS10+!!!!! But I want to be able to capture in VS11+ since I paid good money for it and Ulead's tech support is next to useless!
You must install the June update of directx 9.0c, don't use dxdiag to obtain the version numbers, the June update for XP-SP2 Directx 9.0c is mandatory.
You posted that VS10+ use to work, are you saying after installation of VS11+ now VS10+ does not capture? This is important to know for troubleshooting since the programs do share common files.
Yes, I can capture in VS11+ from a HC3 cam.
Referencing hercap.ini which one are you modifying? There is more than one hercap.ini configuration file.
