CAPTURE FAILURE (when importing direct from Cam-corder)

Post by jimzjazz »

Having moved on from UVS10+ to CORAL UVS11+ I find that I am unable to capture (import ) from my Digital cam-corder (CANON MV650i)
After about 10 secs. the Data Transcoding'please wait' message flashes up (nearly too quick to read) followed by the error message
'Capture failed file corrupted etc.'
Leaving the cam-corder in the samemode&settings
I run up 10+ and carried out the same capturing procedure with no problem and repeated this using W.M.M.also with success (with no Tape loaded in the cam-corder)
I have no problem in capturing from DV
Any help appreciated

capture failure/error using Coral UVS 11+

Post by jimzjazz »

Addendum
numero uno

Apologies, in my haste to post my problemo, I managed to edit out the fact that I was talking about using my cam-corder (without film/cassette )
and using the camera as an import source as a direct feed ,and using the UVS software in Capture mode.
Hope this makes more sense. In the meantime the problem is still with me

So you are trying to capture anaolog thru your camcorder? If that's the case I hate to tell you there's a bug in v11 that prevents analog capture, even thru a digital device.

Hopefully the (promised) patch will address this issue.

In the mean time you can use footage captured via v10 and import that into v11 for editing.

HI Jeff
Thanks for the info. I am not to sure as to what part of 'Capture' you 'classify' as 'Analogue' as my transfer is by DV Camcorder> Firewire connex.>Coral UVS11+ Perhaps if you can expand on this for my own edification, I would be most obliged.
Additionally do you know, how come I have been doing this sort of capture successfully on V10= for some time now,and of course I know what you mean in respect of using V10 for capture then import to V11, I think RETROGRADE is the word that immediately springs to mind, and I can achieve what I want to do by using Windows Movie Maker so maybe there is something in the KISS principle, even although some people treat WMM as being a bit 'Micky Mouse' .
Of course my reason for upgrading was to have a stable/improved bug free platform to work with!!! Which at this time is not the case.
Thanks Jeff once again for your reply

The bug Jeff mentioned affects capture in VS11 from any of these sources: a mini DV digital camera being used as a pass-through device (as you are doing) to capture from an analogue source (such as a VCR or analogue video camera); capture from a Sony Digital 8 camera, connected via firewire, but playing an analogue 8mm tape (my problem); and most external capture devices connecting an external analogue source to your computer via firewire.

The problem appears to centre on the fact that for whatever reason, Corel decided to dump the capture plug-ins which had previously worked on all earlier versions of Video Studio (the Direct Show ones) and replace it with a single InterVideo 'IVI Capture Component', which is what has this bug.

As Jeff also indicated, we understand Corel is working on a patch for this and other problems. But we have no idea when this patch might appear. Mind you, they have known about this particular problem for over 2 months already, so the patch is very much overdue.

Meanwhile, like you, I have reverted to VS10...

Thanks Guys
I got in touch with Ulead and they confirmed that they would pass it on to their 'superiors' ? and in the fullness of time something may happen! they also repeated the 'Capture UV10' then Import to UV11 suggestion. Given that scenario , I could have saved my money and waited till CORAL got their act together, at least it would have saved all of us a bit Aggro
