VS11 crashes my computor

Post by gmorris »

Trimmed 3 minute clip from a 15 min video then I tried to save the trimmed video to a mpeg 2 file. After about 2 minutes VS11 crashes.
This same procedure in VS10 worked with no problem.
I loaded the directx 9.0c update and checked that all options were enabled. VS11 still crashed.
The rendering of 3min in VS10 was noticeable quicker then VS11.
I have smartrender enabled in VS10 and VS11.
When I say crashed, I mean it shuts down my computor.

The file properties are:
NTSC drop frame (29.97 fps)
MPEG files
24 bits, 1440 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(MPEG-2), 16:9
Video data rate: 25000 kbps
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
MPEG audio layer 2, 48 KHz, Stereo

Any help would be appreciated

 MPEGs

MPEG editing problems are not unique to VS11.
In fact, some people have reported that the newer versions are better at MPEG editing! It seems to depend on the particular MPEG file.

You can try disabling SmartRender, but it will take more time and the decoding/re-coding may degrade the video quality. (If you are making a standard DVD, your HD video will need to be re-coded later anyway, so there is no real advantage to SmartRender.)

I suggest that you leave VS10 installed an use it for MPEG editing. (I bought a special-purpose MPEG editor when I had trouble with VS8, and I haven't used Video Studio for MPEG editing since.)

VS11+ crashing system

Post by gmorris »

I was trying to burn hidef on a standard dvd. About two min into the rendering process the system would crash using vs11+.
So I tried the simple procedure as explained in my first post.
Since then I added second hard drive installed windows XP Home and loaded all updates. Made sure direct 9.0c updated with option enabled.
Then VS10+ and VS11+ was installed. At this point the only things installed are VS10+, VS11+, and XP home. Now I would think there would be no conflicts. I then repeated the same procedure as in my first post with the same results.

Any help would be appreciated

Computor crashes no more

Post by gjmorris »

I tried burning a dvd with VS10+ with a mpeg2 file and settings that had worked previsously. It crashed my computor, a program that ran flawlessly for the last six months. This raised my suspions that maybe its not the software.
Started checking the hardware and found that the processer was running a little to hot due to dust buildup in the heatsink cooling fins. I read that the max temp for the pentium d 840 is 69.8C. The processor was 67C while doing next to nothing, then would increase when rendering. This would then shut down my computor which I found is a mechinism built in the processor to prevent it from burning up.
Cleaned out all the dust bunnies, now processor runs idle at 63C and 65C during a 2 hr hidef rendering.

Thank all for the help
