Hello,
I have been using DVD Workshop 2 with no problems, because Ulead seem to have abandoned this product I decided to install Movefactory 6 plus. After the installation was "said" to have been completed I restarted the computer and got the following message " we opologise for any inconvenience but following installation of new hardware or software please check your hardware configuration. Below the message was three options 1) restart the computer from the last known good configuration 2) restart the computer in Windows normal mode and 3) Safe Mode.
Options 1) and 2) brought me back to the above message, selecting Safe Mode then launched Windows xp and gave a further option to select "system restore" I selected this and got the message "unable to restore the system". I checked items in device manager but no problem was highlighted. Not knowing what else to do I reinstalled Windows XP, installed all previous progammes and everything worked fine. I am reluctant to try and install Moviefactory 6 plus again because reinstalling Windows XP is very time consuming.
Any help would be appreciated.
Regards, David

i would think it depends on you re-installed XP.I am reluctant to try and install Moviefactory 6 plus again because reinstalling Windows XP is very time consuming.
Re-installing over an existing installation of XP isn't the same as performing a clean installation. So if there were existing drivers or problems with the old system then can eventually re-appear in the new installation.
Unfortunately you won't know unless you try. So I would suggest before trying another installation of MF6 to manually make a restore point.

MovieFactory 6 system crash
When I re installed Windows XP I formatted the hard drive first, however I manually created a restore point and installed MovieFactory again and recieved the same error message with the only way forward being to select Safe Mode. When in Safe Mode I noticed this time an icon for MovieFactory(it could have been there after the first installation) Clicking this launched MovieFactory and whilst still in Safe Mode I was able to inport video files, select menus etc. I then in Control Panel tried to uninstall Movie Factory and got "error reading setup initialization file".
In Error Log in Windows help I noticed the following message: "Service Control Manager- the following Boot Start or system start driver(s) failed to load: AFD Fips intelppm IPsec MRx5mb NetBIOS NetBT PQImount RasAcd Rdbss SAVRTPEL S PBBCDRV SYMTDI Tcpip".
I then tried to restore the system to the manually created restore point and got the message "your computer cannot be restored to this restore point"
I formatted my hard drive again and reinstalled Windows XP.
Can you help further

When you re-installed XP with SP2 (Service Pack 2 is mandatory), are you also installing all the Motherboard drivers? These drivers are for the controllering chipsets on the motherboard that control the disk/optical drives and much more. Going by that error you may also have to install the correct driver for your network card (XP may be using it's generic driver).
Not sure, wish I could be of more help.

When you cannot restore to a system restore point it is normally because you haven't sufficient hard drive space for windows to create one.
Please view:
Using System Restore and pay particular attention to the paragraph regarding available hard drive space.
Reformatting the hard drive to install XP should be the very LAST resort.
Instead work your way through the following:
Troubleshooting your computer

MovieFactory 6 System Crash
Before I installed MovieFactory 6 for the third time, I decided whilst still in normal windowsXP, to uninstall all other programs and then install MovieFactory. After the installation process was complete MF6 was launched and a small window opened in which was the number '1670' and a 'OK' button which I clicked and the program finished loading and all elements worked ok. Can anyone explain the significance of this window.
I then installed my other programs and MF6 continued to load ok until I installed Easy CD Creator 6. After installation of this program MF6 loaded and I was able to create a project with menus but when I tried to burn a DVD my burner was'nt shown and even though a DVD disc was in the DVD drive, empty was shown against 'Disc Type'. I uninstalled Easy CD Creator 6 and then reinstalled it but this time under 'custom install' selected not to install 'DVD Builder'.
MovieFactory 6 now works fine.
The small window I referred to above only appeared after the first launch of MF6.
