Need help with SHARE please

Post by happyhero »

Hi I have made a slide show with some video in it in Ulead 11plus. I have added titles and soundtrack and it plays fine.
I have then done the following (copied from another one of my posts answered by Ron and Ken)
go to the Share>Create Video File step, and choose NTSC (or PAL, depending on where you're located) DVD. This will render your project to a DVD Compliant MPEG2 video file. DVD(SD) specs require that the video files be in the MPEG2 format, not DV or AVI. This step may take several hours, depending on the complexity of your project and your computer.
Did this bit fine and now have a MPEG2 file on my PC of 1.5GB ( lots of photos).

This next bit is where it goes wrong. I quote the following from the same previous post
Once your DVD Compliant MPEG2 file is completed, go to the File menu and select New Project. This will clear the timeline. Do Not place anything in the timeline. Go back to the Share Step, and this time select Create Disk. This will open the Burn Module.
I click on SHARE and then Create Disk, which opens a window. I then click "Add video file" and select my 1.5GB MPEG2 file and it adds it to the bottom strip of this window but none of the controls work under what I would call the preview window, they are all dimmed out. I presume my MPEG2 should play in this window but it is black/blank.

If I ignore this and carry on i.e and just click NEXT I get the screen for inserting menues but even though I select different menues, when I click PREVIEW it takes me to a screen with a remote control and when I click the play button it just seems to flicker, ie it takes about a second and flickers as if it played the menu or something in 1 second although all I actually see is the screen staying black. The menu was set to 20 seconds under edit so I cannot see what is going wrong here.

What I am attempting to do is this and I quote again
Now insert the DVD Compliant MPEG2 you just created. Continue on building your menus, adding chapters ect., until the final step, which is where you burn the disk, Create DVD Folders, or a Disk Image file. Since you have Nero, you can at this point uncheck the Burn to Disk option, and check the Create DVD Folders. This is what's commonly called burning to your Hard Drive.
but as you see I am stuck with the process above just after I select creat disk in share.

Can somebody help me please? Any help appreciated

Can you insert the finished MPEG2 file into the timeline of a project and then right click it to view its properties? I would first like to make sure it is in fact a DVD compliant file. Also, are you in PAL or NTSC land?

Sounds to me as though your missing a driver - at a guess you don't have the latest version of DirectX onyour PC - check it out along with all these other requirements in order to run VideoStudio correctly :--

From the Ulead requiements

Installing Ulead VideoStudio and drivers

To install Ulead VideoStudio and the necessary drivers, insert your Ulead VideoStudio CD in the CD-ROM drive and simply follow the on-screen installation instructions.

What are these drivers?

QuickTime 7.03 - The video format from Apple for creating and playing back movie files such as MOV and QT file formats. You should install QuickTime 7.03 or above to be able to use the Auto Music function (i.e., SmartSound QuickTracks®) in Ulead VideoStudio. For more information on Apple QuickTime, visit their web site at

http://www.apple.com/quicktime.

SmartSound Quicktracks - This is a plug-in from SmartSound® that is integrated into Ulead VideoStudio. It gives you a library of quality soundtracks that you can add as background music to your movie projects.

RealPlayer 10.5 - This is a software player from RealNetworks for playing Real Video and Real Audio files from the Internet. It is recommended that you install this driver unless you have a later version. For more information, visit their web site at http://www.real.com.

Intel Indeo 5.2 - This is the codec for creating or playing .AVI files in QuickTime. You should install Intel Indeo 5.2 or above to be able to use the style templates in the Ulead VideoStudio Movie Wizard.

Acrobat Reader 7.07 - This is Adobe¡¦s Acrobat Reader and is used for viewing the Ulead VideoStudio¡¦s electronic manual. It is recommended that you install it unless you have a later version.

Microsoft DirectX - A driver from Microsoft that improves playback performance of video files. You should install this driver. It will be installed automatically when you are installing Ulead VideoStudio. For more information, visit Microsoft's Web site at
http://www.microsoft.com/directx.

Microsoft Windows Media Format
- A set of drivers from Microsoft that allows you to create WMV and other streaming media files. They will be installed automatically when you are installing Ulead VideoStudio. For more information, visit Microsoft's Web site at

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia.

Macromedia Flash Player 7 - This is a software player that allows you to play back flash animation files (SWF). VideoStudio comes with plenty of flash animation files that you can use for your video. For more information, visit Macromedia's Web site at

http://www.macromedia.com/software/flashplayer.

Note: If you have a previous version of Ulead VideoStudio installed in your system, it is recommended that you uninstall it only after installing Ulead VideoStudio. During installation, the Setup Wizard will auto-detect your capture device plug-in and specially supported codecs (such as MPEG-4, 3GP, DivX) from the previous VideoStudio version and integrate it onto VideoStudio

Hi GuyL, when I go to insert the finished MPEG2 into the time line, I insert it in the top line which has a single film reel icon at the beginning as opposed to the line below which has a twin film real icon with a tiny 1 next to it. I get a warning message that says"Do you want to change the project settings to match the video's properties so VideoStudio can perform SmartRender" which I am not really sure what it means but I always say no.

In properties it states things like FILE FORMAT - PAL DVD, VIDEO TYPE - MPEG-2 Video, AUDIO TYPE - MPEG AUDIO LAYER 2 files and other bits, not sure which other bits you might want to know also I am in PAL land.

Hi BrianCee I just did as you advised and tried to update Directx and that seems to have kicked it into life, so thanks very much for that but can I now ask an additional related queation or two please. When I am going through this process,

It has the ability to add chaptors to my slideshow, I have noticed chaptors on bought DVD films but why would I want to add/edit chaptors?

When I select a menu it seems to add some music and start my MPEG2 off inside a little window on this menu. I don't like this I would prefer the menu to display with a picture of my choice and then have to click the play button on the menu to set the MPEG2 off, otherwise I dont get a menu first followed by my MPEG2 but I get them running simultaneously, which I dont want. Any ideas?

OR

Does it play this menu and start my MPEG2 after anyway from the beginning? I ask this because I have just spotted that after you set the menu duration you can set any part of my file to display in that tiny window on the menu for the selected time I suppose, so I am assuming it uses my file from the beginning if not told to do different. If this is the case I would be interested in inserting a totally different picture from my PC in this tiny window, is that possible?

Sorry if I am being dumb but what does it do when you select the "Show highlight button"?

Sorry if I am asking too many questions but I am a beginner and learning all the time.

The ability to make chapters is provided for all DVDs whether a slide show or a video - if you do not want chapters in your slideshow then do not create them - that is do not click on add/edit chapters.

When you have imported your video and are in the 'Create Disc' module and have chosen your menu template - and if you do not want a little 'Thumbnail' then choose one of the 'Text only' ones - - look to the top of the pane to the left of the preview screen (where the templates are) and you will see two tabs - one is labelled "Gallery" - the other is labelled "Edit"

Click on the "Edit" tab and a new pane will open with options to change the menu music - to change the background picture - to change the way the menu comes and goes etc, and to remove the tick from 'Motion Menu' which will stop the little picture playing. You can only have a picture from your video in the Thumbnail - not any other picture from your computer.

When you click OK on that window you will go back to the previous 'Create Disc' window where you can see the effect - if the thumbnails are not placed to your liking click on them and move them to where you want - if the thumbnails are not the right size for you when you click on them yellow and pink dots will appear - the yellow ones are handles for stretching - and the pink one rotates the thumbnail

Cheers BrianCee, all very helpful, I will leave chapters alone as I have no use for them that I can see at this point.

I am surprised when you consider how comprehensive this program is, that it wont let you select a different picture for the thumbnail from your PC but I can live with that. I just did not want to give anything away in the menu and as my pictures in the slideshow last 8 seconds and my menu I have set to display for 30 seconds it is annoying using my slideshow pictures as it will display several of them in that 30 seconds in that thumbnail including any transitions, giving too much away I feel, so I will choose to have no thumbnail I think in this case. I know as you explained that I can kill the motion part and that stops the pictures in the thumbnail changing but unfortunately it also seems to stop the effects I put in on the menu as well from EDIT/CUSTOMISE/MOTION FILTER.

Anyway thanks again for the help, really appreciated.

You can of course change the background picture in the menu to any picture at all on your pc - and as I already said if you don't like the thumbnails then use a text only menu - you could have something just like this
