uLead VideoStudio 8 will not install

Post by elcid26 »

I purchased Studio 8 and it will not instal. It gets as far as:- Ready to instal in C:/Program files/ Ulead etc etc, press Next if OK, then I get a window saying:-There is not enough space to instal these option(s). Please free up some disc space or modify your selections"
There is a total of 200 Gbs free space on two hard drives. I downloaded Version 11 which is on free 30 day trial at the moment, this installed perfectly and I have been using it.
Emails and phone calls to Corel don't help, they say they don't support version 8 anymore. They think it is because ver 8 is not compatible with Windows XP SP2. Clearly says on the box, OK for XP. Corel says it's probably the SP2 pack. Suggest I re-instal XP and stop all updates !!
Anybody got any ideas please???
It's driving me nuts.

Hello sjj1805.
Thank you very much for your help.
I have followed your instructions exactly (I had to pay $15 for the indio program, it's not free).
I still cannot instal VideoStudio 8. Nothing has changed. Exactly as described before.
What do I do now please?
Regards, E lCid. :)

Do you have a download or a disc based version.

Make sure that you have "Administrator" privileges on your computer. "Limited" or "Guest" accounts won't let Ulead softwares install or run properly on your computer. Then make sure to install the Ulead software to its default install location usually in the
"C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems" folder.

Before installing, please temporarily close other running programs or applications including antivirus, Norton utilities, screensaver, other memory resident programs including Internet connection, etc. to avoid unnecessary conflict and restrictions within your system.

If you have the download version then you should have an exe file.
use winzip and extract that exe file to a directory. This will then create a number of files and a folder structure.
Now look for a file named setup.exe and try running that.

If you have a disc based version.
Please copy all the contents of the installer CD into a local folder on your hard disk. Then install the Ulead software from there. If it does not copy at all then the CD has been corrupted.

Thanks again for all your help. I really am struggling here.
I have done all that you that you have suggested. Everything switched off, internet disconnected.
I am the only user of my PC. There are no other users.
This is a feature of XP that I really do NOT want, it causes so many problems, especially file duplication, and as far as I know there is no way to erase it. I wish I had never been persuaded to upgrade from Windows 98SE.

I have an original authentic disc, with registration.
I transferred everything on the disc to a separate file, as you said. Exactly the same thing happened as before.
I do not think it can be a corrupt disc because I have another copy of VideoStudio 8 that is bundled on another CD that came with ADS VideoXpress Version 1.2. This is the capture device that I bought to capture analogue video from VCR.

I am beginning to suspect that this is all due to a deliberate attempt by Corel to force me into spending another $100 to buy version 11. I do not need the bells and whistles that have been added. I can't afford it anyway.
I am a 77 year old pensioner. I am living in Spain because I can't afford to live in rip-off Britain anymore. Everything here is half the cost of the same thing in UK. Now I am being ripped off on the internet.
Regards and thanks again.

First, VS8 is most definitely compatible with XP SP2. If I recall correctly, it was released *after* SP2 appeared. And there are (or at least, were) lots of users with VS8 on their SP2 computers. I am one of those, and in fact, only reinstalled VS8 on my XP Pro SP2 computer recently, with no problems. Installed without a hitch.

Can you confirm that the second copy of VS8 which came with your capture device, gives you the same error message?

Can you also confirm that you are trying to install it on your main program hard disk (the one with XP on it), which is usually C:\. I seem to recall that VS8 could only be installed on C:\ and there was a hell of a run-around to install it on any other hard disk drive.

Finally, just to satisfy my curiosity, where on earth did you manage to buy a copy of VS8, since I get the impression you only acquired it recently...? As you have seen, it is given away free with hardware. Those give-aways usually have SE in the title. So if your new version has SE in its title, you have been taken for a ride, I am afraid to say. If not, then you probably should not have paid more than 25 pesetas for it!!

Hello Ken, thank you very much for your interest.
Yes, I confirm that I get exactly the same message at exactly the same stage with the second copy. I tried to install it on C:\ first in the correct place in Program files. I also tried to install it on my second hard drive, F:\ with same result.
I bought my new copy (which does not have SE in the title) through eBay, it came from USA, I paid $16 (eight pounds) for it.
There are 2 discs, one for the program the other disc has “content” i.e.:-Video tutorial, COOL 3D 3.0SE, Audio,Image and Video clips.
The whole thing contained in a proper box together with a full instruction Manual and another book titled “Digital Video Basics” a guide to shooting great video.
Do you think that if I un-installed all of Microsoft’s “updates” that would work?
This was suggested by Corel. I see that you have XP Pro, I have XP home, would that make a difference?
I was not aware that VS8 was given away free, so yes, I have been caught I suppose.
Thanks again, Best Regards.

I don't know why I didn't think of it before but I have got a laptop. I thought I would try to instal VS 8 on that and guess what? It worked perfectly !!!
So that brings us back to my desk-top PC doesn't it?
What is it that is in my PC that is stopping this program from installing ?
Is it possible to instal a program when in "Safe" condition ?
I have a program called End-it-all which shuts down everything (handy when de-fragging etc) should I try installing in that mode??
I am clutching at straws here folks !

VS8 should install and run fine on WinXP Home, as I currently have it installed on my machine. I'm running XP Home, SP2, with all the current updates.

What you describe should be a Full Boxed version, and it is not given away. The SE labeled versions however are. If you were able to register it with Corel (Ulead), then it should be legitimate, and not a pirated copy.

Try clearing your Temp folder before installing. It can be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Local Settings\Temp. Do not delete the Temp folder, just all the files in that folder. You will also need to be able to see Hidden Files/Folders.

To view Hidden Files and Folders, in Windows Explorer click on Tools menu, select Folder Options from the menu. In the Folder Options Dialog click on the View tab, scroll down to Hidden Files and Folders, and check the radial beside Show Hidden Files and Folders.

What (if any) is the error message you are getting? Is it a CRC Error, Cyclic Redundacy Check ? If so that could be due to the disc being bad, or your CD reader, and possibly your RAM failing. I have experienced this type of error, and it was my RAM failing. It was difficult to trace to that. I used the free utility Memtest86. After running several passes, it found where one of my RAM sticks was failing. After replacing it, I no longer have the CRC errors, while trying to install programs.

Thanks videoman,
As I said in the first blog:- When I try to instal it gets as far as:- Ready to instal in C:\Program files\ Ulead etc etc,
press Next if OK,
then I get a window saying:-"There is not enough space to instal these option(s). Please free up some disc space or modify your selections"

There is a total of 200 Gbs free space on two hard drives. I downloaded Version 11 which is on free 30 day trial at the moment, this installed perfectly and I have been using it.

I clear my Temp files every few days (I use a fantastic clean-up program called:-EasyCleaner" from:- http://www.toniarts.com ) Hidden files are all shown on my PC.
RAM tested and OK.
