I had never done any sort of video editing until this week. I put together this clip for YouTube following the directions that were in these forums. They were all very helpful.

Probably infringes a few copyright issues but..... nice music video.
If you haven't got a camcorder why not try your hand at doing a slide show?
You can either use pictures from a digital camera or scan them.
If you do have a camcorder keep your eyes peeled on the forum, there might be a competition starting soon.

thank you for the feedback.
i dont have much experience with visual work, i dont own a camera or camcorder..but who knows it might be something neat to get in the future. I think what was great about the software was it was pretty intuitive. there were a few things i had i wish i could have been able to do, but i understand that i would probably have needed an add on. one of the things i had trouble with was placing clips on the time line where i wanted to them. i ended up using the overlay track 99 percent of the time. does using the overlay track this much effect quality? i was also confused a bit with the audio, somehow i made it do what i wanted too...but maybe i should probably figure out how i did it.
also the renderer..i downloaded the divx codex 6. but i didnt see that option to use when i went to make the render the video. anyway thanks for making the forums newbie friendly.

I think you are asking how to synchronise the video with the audio
This is how I do it with VideoStudio:

Regarding use of the DivX 6 Codec, I take it you want to share online.

i didnt actually attempt to sync the sound...
here is the problem. i had 40+ clips i layed into that video. because of the way the timeline works, i had to use the overlay track the majority of the time because the main track does not let you place out of time order....which the overlay track does. Does that make any sense? In the end using the overlay track did not seem to have a negative impact on the video...however if i had really wanted to overlay clips i would have had a problem.
Thanks for the help.

Well done video, and yes it might bend the copyright laws a little..
If you had to use an overlay track why would that have caused a problem, unless you are using VS11? VS11+ has 6 overlay tracks.
You can use color mattes (color clips) as placeholders to help get your video or image clips in the order that you want. Simply make the color matte the same duration of the clip(s) you want to remove or considering on adding, drop it in the timeline, before the video clip you're wanting to remove. Once your' finished using the color matte as your place holder simply delete it.
