No sound from an 'imported' mp3 file

Post by wywso0 »

I am trying to edit some video of fountains with Handel's water music as accompaniment. I have the music I want as an mp3 file and it plays fine in Real Player on the PC I am running VS10+ (with Vista patch) on. When I paste it to the timeline, I get no sound from it in edit mode.

I do, however, get sound from the video clips of the fountains (these are background noises and the noise of the water - I am planning to mute these). Also, I get sound if I paste into the audio timeline one of the ten or so mp3 sound files that VS provides as default tracks.

So, all I can think of is some incompatibility between the water music mp3 file and VS, since I can get sound in edit mode just not from the music I want.

Any suggestions for a fix?
Thanks

Bill

Convert it to a wav file.

Also, mute the sound that came from the video file.

Or you can split the sound from the video and delete it off the timeline.

I'm assuming you totally don't want the natural sound.

If you want the natural sound hushed behind the music... ummm, I would probably mix them together on a separate program like Audacity (free) then upload in your sound library

Hi

I found using mp3 files with a higher bit rate of 192 sometimes caused this problem.
Using 192 or lower, files seems played ok.

Hi there,
I'm a novice of 5 days. Last night I put and MP3 track of music on there and had the same prob. Then i turned down the ambient audio on the video track and could hear the music better. It looks like the atmos/ambient sound has to reduce and the music track has to increase in volume. But thing is: how do I get the balance right? (The manual is no help - otherwise I wouldn't have troub;e everyone).

The default audio level is 100 (somethings). It can go to 500 (whatevers). Is 500 going to distort with certain sounds? Or does the total volume of all audio tracks added together have to add up to 500?

Hoping someone can help! Not sure if I have time before the big family premiere on Saturday for learning an external Sound Editing application too.

Thanks,
John

Some people report problems with certain mp3 types. Try converting them to wav files, which seem easier to work with. The free Audacity will do the convert.

Hello again Jeff - that was quick!

The MP3s are playing though. Do AVIs also play quietly when you initially put them in? - drowned out by the ambient/atmos track of the video?

Is 'Audacity' part of VS10?

No, my wav files play at a normal level.

Give the converting a try. If it works, great. If not, we'll try something else.

From Audacity go to File > Open and navigate to the mp3 file you want to convert. That will put the waveform of the file onto the timeline. Now go to File > Export as WAV. Think you can handle that?
