Having a big problem.
First, I got this video editing software thinking it was the solution for my problem to edit AVCHD, but It seems it's not at all.
1) I can't capture video directly from the camera. (I hope they make a plugin for this)
2) In the tutorial it says I have to use "Import from DVD/DVD-VR" to import videos, but that does not work either. After giving the correct path in "Import DVD Folder" the program exits without even giving an error.
3) I can't edit my previously imported AVCHD videos, which are in m2ts format.
Can anyone show me what I am doing wrong??? How am I suppose to import my videos from my camera.

I have a Sony HDR-SR1 and, rather surprisingly, VS11 imported the AVCHD video without any problems!!
Here's how I did it:
with the HDR-SR1 plugged into PC via USB. Fire up VS11.
Click on Capture>Import DVD/DVD-VR
then, Import DVD Folder
find and click on the camera AVCHD folder (mine showed up as a removable disk)
Click OK
An Import DVD window should now appear and you should now see your AVCHD clips as Clip 0, Clip 1 etc.
Tick the box next the clip you want, then click Import.
The video then appears in the video clips window ready for editing!

followed the exact steps but didn't work
I followed the exact steps below.
-> Click on Capture>Import DVD/DVD-VR
-> then, Import DVD Folder
-> find and click on the camera AVCHD folder (mine showed up as a removable disk)
-> Click OK
After this, the whole program shuts down and does not even give an error message.

-> then, Import DVD Folder
-> find and click on the camera AVCHD folder (mine showed up as a removable disk)
-> Click OK
After this, the whole program shuts down and does not even give an error message.

I've ran into this exact situation too. I found a solution to the problem.
Turns out I had a bad index file on my camcorder. And when I say bad, it's not bad by Sony standards since the Sony software still worked fine. But bad in a way that VS11+ did not like it. What I think happened is as soon as I deleted a video on my camcorder, the index file changes in such a way that VS11+ doesn't like it. But here's the solution (if I remembered where I saw this I'd give proper credit).
- Copy the HDR-SR1's AVCHD directory to your PC.
- Unplug the camcorder and format the camcorder's drive. At this point you cannot recover video from the camcorder. So make sure you have a copy.
- After formatted, reconnect to the pc.
- Copy the fresh index.bdm file to the same location on the pc. You may want to rename the original file instead of copying over it, just in case. Better safe than sorry.
- Open VS11+, and import from the PC.
Make sure when you copy the index file, it's a fresh one. In other words no video on the camcorder at all or else this won't work.
If you aren't comfortable refomatting the hard drive, there is an alternate solution.
- Download the files to the PC using the Sony Software.
- Format the drive of the camcorder.
- Upload the videos back up to the camera with the Sony Software.
This will properly rebuild the index. BUT IT TAKES A LONG LONG LONG TIME.
Hope this helps.
