What did they do to the lasso tool?

Post by tdew »

Hi,
I've now been using PI 10 and find that one of my favorites - the lasso tool has gotten "jittery". With previous versions of the program, you could be very precise about your outline of an object. With the new version, the lasso starts skippin all over the place and making a ragged line. Is there a setting I'm missing?

Does everyone see this tool the same way I do?
Does it jiggle a fine line all over the place instead of being able to put a precise outline around an item?

I'm surprised that no one had anything to add and am wondering if it's not something that everyone is seeing?

I haven't seen what you are describing with my system. What are your toolbar setting for the lasso? Too much or too little sensitivity could be the source of your problem.

Haven't noticed any problems.

But, I don't understand your "jiggly problem" to the fullest.

The image below shows my basic settings in the "options" box.
Is "anti-aliasing" ticked in your case?

In the image used, the lasso outline is jiggly, but that is due to the subject matter and, perhaps, my control of the mouse. The "soft edge" is set to "0" to eliminate any softness.

Have you tried the "smart lasso" control? The setting of "Detection Scope" may also have a bearing.

Just offering suggestions to get a better understanding of your problem.

I'll second that, should be about 2 or 3. You can eliminate it all together by unchecking "snap to edges"

Brian, BobM & VT Photog,

THANK YOU!

My problem was the "smart lasso". When it was checked, it was impossible to do the precise selection that I was used to doing in other versions of the program. I knew the smart lasso was one of the improvements, and was looking forward to testing it out, but didn't realize that I'd have to turn it OFF right from the start.

I can see that there are many more tricks to learn with the new tools.
Thanks again.
