What am i doing wrong, cannot even install cd rom.

Post by clairibel »

:( I am very frustrated as bought a new camera(megxon) and installed cd-rom but to my dismay i have no automatic memory card reader icon as it says you should have and i cannot get my piccies off my camera. I had a message that read setup cannot load the installer(modem.cpl) for the ESSWDM hardware being installed. So i dont know if its important as i'm a novice in computer speak but i dragged it into my recycle bin. When i go in device manager my digital camera has a yellow asterisk and there is no reference to a usb cable. Help!

Downloading pics

Post by David_S »

I assume you are trying to download pics using Photoexplorer not the software which comes with the camera. I am not familiar with your particular camera but the following might help. I have found two ways of downloading pics with PEx. With my Fuji Finepix I connect the USB cable, switch the camera to play and the camera then appears as a removable drive in Windows and Photoexplorer folders with its own drive letter. To download pics in PEx go File/Digital Camera Wizard and enter the removable drive letter in Get Images from Image Folder and proceed from there.

My Canon DV Camera in still picture mode does not appear as a removable drive and is not recognised by Pex directly. But pictures can be downloaded using the TWAIN driver which came with the camera. After installing this driver which should be on the CD which came with the camera (not all cameras have this driver, though) connect the USB cable and switch to play in card mode (i.e. still, not movie mode) The computer should recognise the connection. In Pex open File/TWain acquire/select source and your camera should be there. Select it and then go File/TWAIN/Acquire/Acquire Now. etc.
You should however be able to use the software which came with the camera. If that is not working this is probably not the forum to get help. The first thing I would check is that your USB connection is working OK - check the USB Controllers in Device Manager.
Good luck

I have just checked the Megxon site http://www.megxon.com/index.html which has useful information on troubleshooting problems. It appears that your camera should be recognised as a removable drive. They also suggest checking to see if your USB connection is OK. If this is the only USB device you have the USB may not be enabled in the BIOS. It is relatively easy to make BIOS changes during bootup but if you have not done it before I suggest you ask someone for a hand.

Hi Clairibel,

I think the driver is not installed porperly. Please check with Megxon for your driver problem.
