VS11+ capture problem - no video in capture preview screen

Post by Gary Searle »

When capturing video with VS11+ from my Sony DV camera (using firewire) I can hear the sound but there is no video in the preview screen!

VS8, 9, 10 all capture fine on this PC so it must be a problem with VS11.

Anyone else have this problem?

PC spec:
OS: XP sp2
Mobo: Asus P4B533
Processor: P4 2.53Ghz
Ram: 512Mb
Video card: Matrox Millennium G550
Sound Card: C-Media CMI8738
HDD space: 74.5GB

Capture source: Sony DCRHC85E using firewire, 720x576 DV type 1, PAL

That link supplied by BlackLab assumes you are trying to capture from an analogue source, but you have not given us much detail.

One other simple possibility is that you have not selected 'Preview Screen' in File > Preferences > Instant Playback Target.

Thanks for the help Ken & Black Lab,

I am capturing with a Sony DCRHC85E using firewire from DV tape. So I guess thats digital capture.

The default option in "File > Preferences > Instant Playback Target" is Dual Head Device. I changed this to "Preview Screen" and it made no difference, still no video in preview screen.

This must be a VS11 bug as VS10, VS9 & VS8 all capture with video in preview screen on this machine (instant playback target selected as dual head device).

I don't see that I can do anything else except wait for a service pack!

To be a bug in the certified sense, it has to be replicable. And as far as I am aware, you are the only one complaining of this particular problem. In my case, the video appears in the preview window of VS11+ when I am capturing from a mini DV camera over firewire... And I am sure that is the case for most other users of VS11+ and mini DV cameras...

The firstime I tried to capture in VS11+ I had the same problem then realised I had my Camcorder in PC mode rather than playback mode.

Worked fine after that... :)

Sony Preview Screen

Post by Padster »

I have had VS 11 for one week now and had the usual installation failure which required me to change the .ini file so that AvControlSDK.exe didn't load.

Installation went well after that but the sample program that was supposed to be in my Start Menu -> Al Programs->ulead group didn't materialize.

I have a Sony HC37E mini dv and VS 11 doesn't recognise it at all in the capture tab. Mosts items in the screen remain greyed out.

However, using the software supplied with the camera I have no download problems. Same firewire, same computer, same camera different software. So, it must be some setup tweak in VZ 11 I have yet to work out.

Otherwise, I have fiddled with the editing tab and a few others tabs and thanks to all you very helpful forum members I have learned quite a lot in the last week. Some great tutorials guys!

Well done and I look forward to months of fruitful searching as the manual is well, pretty pathetic!

Gary,
I have the exact same mini dv camera and also cannot capture to VS11+. I have VS8 which has no issues with capture from my cam.

Very dissappointed in the product given my investment in VS8 and now VS11+ ( which I can only use for editing and not capture ). :(

come on Corel, sort this issue out.

I have a Panasonic NV-MX350 and VS11+ has no problem capturing via firewire.
Have you tried this:

yes, that was the only way to get VS11+ to install correctly

changing AVControl from 1 to 0 in info.ini file

Post by Neil Harmon »

When you use the installation fix as indicated by Espresso_Addict you will be bypassing installation of AVControl which is the module that provides DV capture from your camera. That is why everything is "grayed out". There is no software to capture from the camera. Installing AVControlSDK separately doesn't help either.

Corel has at least one fix for this. See the thread hosted by sjj1805 enttiled "avcontrolsdk - Your Help Is Required"

SOUND BUT NO VIDEO

Post by astroboy4643 »

have found similar issue when using vs11, although i have the same issue with my version 8. I can capture the video ok but when it comes to editing i have no preview but audio is present, I recently found after pulling ones hair out that if i mute the clip then it previews ok, but i cannot use the multi split because the mute option does not carry through to this option (not that i know anyway). I can tell everyone this is not an issue with vs11 however becasue this started to occur on my version 8, i then decided to upgrade to 11 thinking that i had found an issue with version 8. my next step is to rebuild my main machine, which is the only one that has this issue (other machine does not xp sp2 25 celeron 512mb), will keep you guys informed if i find anything out but it is tending to look like an unwanted codec conflict from something else i have downloaded

cheers

re: cannot capture from sony DV

Post by rickh »

I have installed the v11 patch as per other threads.

VS11.5 will not recognise my Sony DCR-HC85E DV Pal handy cam.

I still have VS8 on my pc and this has no issues with capture.

Has anyone been able to solve this issue?
