How to change AVI-codec for capturing

Post by randazzo »

In search of a better quality for my DVD projects I ended up with the HUFFYV codec. I installed it on my pc.

But how can I make VS8 use this codec for the capturing?

Thanks in advance.

Click on the gear icon / cog in the Capture tab and change the capture settings.

Thank you for your reply.

But there I can only choose for DV1 of DV2. No way of changing the capture codec. I feel silly but am I missing the point?

Change the capture format from DV to AVI. DV does in fact use an AVI file, but always with the DV codec, so you don't get to choose the codec. If you choose AVI format capture, you can select a codec.

However, if you are capturing from a DV device, there is no point in going to AVI with Huffyuv. You'd be taking the DV-compressed video, decompressing it, and then recompressing it lossless, but this Huffyuv-compressed file could never contain any more detail than the original DV data, and it would consume more disk space, too.

Thanks for your explanation. I get the picture.

I was in search for a better video quality but appearantly it doesn't get any better than this.
