Movie Screensaver

Post by Gra »

Hi guys
I was going through the file list and found an export option called 'Movie Screensaver'. I thought it'd be fun to have my own PC screensaver and tried to save a file as a test. But it doesn't give any file saving options; it only gives you a file opening option. Have I misunderstood this facility and you can't make screensavers for the PC or do I need a plug-in or something???
Thanks & regards.

Hi Gra,

This is somewhat deceiving. If you notice when you select Movie Screen saver, you get an Open File dialog, not a "Save As". Until today I've never experimented with this.

It takes a video file and converts it to the .SCR extension so that windows will think it is a screen saver file. However with me, it would only allow selecting WMV files.

It would be nice if would allow other file types, AND, it was possible to play the screen saver in window mode. It plays it full screen, so the video appears very pixelated.

Hi Ron

It works! Many thanks; it is deceiving! The 'open' dialogue box was throwing me completely as I was expecting to 'save' a file into .scr as the movie screensaver is under the export heading.

I did a test and converted a 3 second AVI file of some shimmering text (64mb) into WMV (33kb) and the result on opening in movie screensaver (and displaying full screen) was quite good at this end. Maybe it"s a question of how complex or large the resulting WMV file is (or maybe I was just lucky this time)?
Thanks & regards.
