I've lost Audio!

Post by edwardshlang »

I'm giving a talk using Power Point in a short while. The presentation is going to have video clips in it. My DVD was protected so I needed help. Thoff (a fellow user and expert from USA) has been giving me help and this is how far i've got, who can take me to the next stage?!
I downloaded a 'DVD decrypter' so that my DVD could be stored on my hard disc.
I then used UVS8 to import video (selected 'Import DVD/DVD-VR...' and in new dialogue box I browsed to VIDEO_TS folder and selected the scenes to be imported to the timeline) - This has all worked.
However, when I play the clip so I can trim it, there is no Audio - where is the audio hiding and how do i join it back up with the video clip?
Any ideas?

Hi Edward
I've never been in that situation but as you're in a hurry here's an idea of the top of my head. Do you not have an audio TS file as well? I think you'd need to import that to VS8 along with the video file (sorry if that's not the answer, but it's the best I can think of until some others with more experience log-on).

Hope that may help & good luck.

Thaks for being so quick. The talk isn't for a couple of weeks but I need to get all these clips sorted which takes time. When I import the video file it does it all automatically. I have looked at where the decrypted DVD is stored on my hard drive and it is split into several file types e.g. VOB files? (sorry I'm at work at the moment and don't have my 'home' laptop - will bring it in tomorrow for more detail if needed). As I said, UVS imports the DVD clips automatically (I have no choice as to what it picks)and there is just no sound with it...

The audio on the dvd is probably ac3 audio (aka Dolby Digital Audio) VS8 only supports this if you buy the plug in from Ulead for $29.95.

There is a free plug in you can download that will decode ac3 audio in VS8 but not encode like the paid for plug in from Ulead. You'll have to do a search for it.

Merlin,
You're up early!
Yes THoff mentioned that I might have to buy the plug in.
However if I buy the plug-in will the problem be sorted out automatically by UVS and my comp or do I need to understand what is going-unlikely!
What is this freeware? Will it do the job i'm looking for? Do I want to be able to encode, surely I just want to decode or change the AC3 audio format to something that is compatible with UVS?

download the ac3 pack from ulead!

it will sort itself out and you'll be able to import dvd with sound.

you dont have to do any tinkering, just install it then it'll work!!

ps. save the download then install it, at least then you have it as back-up!

The pay for plug in from Ulead should work automatically.

The freeware one like I said will only decode, it will allow you to load the dvd in. I'm not sure how it works but I'm guessing that it coverts the ac3 audio to lcpm or mpeg2 audio. Can't say for sure as I don't have it. There was a post awhile back here about it including a link to where you can download it.
