Hello everyone. I used to have VS10 where I did some really nice home videos. I use a Avermedia EZMaker card to capture from analogue devices like VCR (to keep alive the content from my old tapes) and my old Sony camera.
Recently, I decided to upgrade to Windows Vista and as a result, to VS11. However, I do have significant problems with MPEG2 capture in PAL, 720*576, 8000 kbps. It drops frames and video is not viewable. I kept VS10 installed and tried to capture there using the Ulead Directshow Capture Plug-in and the above settings for MPEG2. It works great but when I try to edit the video I do not have sound (however video is saved with sound and usual great quality).
With VS11, the Capture Plug-in is IVI Capture Component (how different is this to the above?). I tried but it keeps dropping frames. Is there anything I can do? Since VS10 captures perfectly well and VS11 is not, it is certainly not a problem with my card or PC. Any recommendations on that? Can I install Ulead Directshow Capture Plug-in in UVS11 (in case that this makes any difference?)...
Thanks in advance
Capture to MPEG2 drops frames in VS11

Unfortunately, I can't try it for you. I used to capture from analog using an ATI All-In-Wonder Card but I no longer capture from analog sources and have retired the capture cards. VISTA has changed a lot of the underlying video and sound technology and that may be part of the issue here.
Now using Adobe Premiere and Photoshop

In this case, it has nothing to do with Vista... There is a bug recorded by quite a few users (me included) whereby VS11 will not capture -- either in DV format or mpeg-2 -- from just about all analogue sources. This includes mini DV cameras being used as a pass-through device by either an analogue camera or VCR; Sony Digital 8 cameras playing an analogue tape over firewire; and most standard analogue capture devices. (The only exception appears to be at least some devices which have a hardware chip which converts the analogue signal into DV format in the device itself, rather than relying on VS11 to convert it.)
The culprit appears to be the new IVI capture component, which the designers in their wisdom (NOT!!!) substituted for the various Direct Show capture plug-ins which had worked just fine in previous versions of VS... Result: a lot of very unhappy users!
The only work-around appears to be to capture using third party software (I use WinDV for capturing my DV from the Sony Digital 8 for instance). And then import the captured files into VS for editing...
We understand that Corel/Ulead is working on a patch, but have no idea when it might emerge...

Thank you very much for your answer Ken. Much appreciated. I started to suspect it is the Capture Plug-in. For the time, I use VirtualDub to capture in lossless huffyuv with PCM sound where I have no issues so far.Ken Berry wrote:In this case, it has nothing to do with Vista...
