type-1 v type-2 ? with particular editing task

Post by mikewillnot »

I use UVS 8.0 (don't ask), updated.
I capture DV video from a camcorder in AVI format.

TASK: I want to edit together two video sources, main (A) and secondary B),
so that the audio track from A is constant throughout, and video is mainly from A, but occasionally cross-fades out and is replaced with video (not audio) from B, and then back to A. [I have the cross-fade transitions; that's not the problem.]

QUESTION: I've done this before but it was a couple of years back. Is it necessary to capture in type-2 to do this?

THANKS.

Type 1 Encoder captures the audio and video in a single stream and file; Type 2 captures them in separate streams but still in a single file. Professional video editors with professional software can take advantage of the separate audio and video streams, but Video Studio is not one of these. For all intents and purposes, you can achieve what you want regardless of the Type of the DV.

You can stick to type 1.
I think the posts you are looking for relating to the procedure you are doing are these:
