Capturing From MiniDV - With Audio

Post by astrovideo »

Hi,
I am using version 10+.
When I transfer video from my miniDV camcorder I hear the audio portion of the tape coming from my camcorder speaker and from my PC speakers. Is this normal? If I mute one of them, will the audio still transfer?

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums,

I suspect you're using firewire to transfer your video. Anyway muting the audio on your camcorder will not prevent if from being transferred. You can in fact mute the audio on both, and it still will be transferred.

By referring to your process as being transferred, if using Firewire, you are accurate. It is basically copying the data from your minidv camcorder to your PC. It would be like copy/paste an music file, while your speakers are shutoff.

Thanks for the reply, videoman - yes, I am transfering via firewire. How do most people deal with the "double" audio when transfering? Probably just ignore it? I know it's not a big deal, it just has a sort of echo effect because I am hearing the sound from two sources.

I use Headphones on my PC all the time. I also have a small 14" TV setup beside my system, that I can preview clips on. When I'm capturing I may listen to the sound through it. My Camcorder speaker is always turned down to a mute state.

Just turn down the one you don't want to hear.
I use my tv monitor to listen to audio and watch video, as this is what most of customers use to watch their product on!!
