Trim a clip directly on the timeline ? Help

Iam wanting to trim a clip directly on the timeline, but when I drag a movie onto the timeline, all I get is a thumbnail picture of the beginning of my movie at the beginning of the timeline the rest is just blank.

Any help please btw Video studio 11+

File > Preferences > General > Clip Display Mode -- set this to Thumbnail Only and it will show the frames which you can expand outward or zoom in on as you like.
