VS9 DVD Problem - CRASHING when making DVD
Hello. VideoStudio 9 SE DVD is the only software on my Windows XP OS computer for making DVDs, and it has never worked. I used a video capture device to capture some VHS tapes, and I edited it using VS9. I clicked on "Create Disc", and a window pops up. Inside the window is just a gray area, and if I click on anything all the area inside that window and the VS9 window turns white, freezes, and says "Not Responding", then closes itself. I tried downloading all the patches for VS9, but only the Flash one worked, all the others couldn't detect VS9 being installed on my computer. I'm guessing that maybe the others are installed already? I really need to make these DVDs, please help!
Please don't "bump" your threads. If somebody knows the answer, they will try to help you. A more descriptive title might get more people to read your thread... (I'll edit your title.)
What format did you capture to? (It the answer is AVI, we need more details. AVI is a container format and it can contain any type of format/compression.)
The more compressed the format, the more likely you are to have trouble. AVI/DV (at 13GB per hour) almost always works. MPEG-2 (the DVD format) usually works, But I've had enough trouble with it that I bought a special-purpose MPEG editor. People who work with MOV, WMV, DivX, MPEG-4, etc. seem to have lots of trouble.
What type of capture device do you have?
There is only a small chance that updating (or upgrading to Video Studio 11) would help with your "problem" video files. But, you can try downloading the free-trial version of VS11 if you wish.
This most likely is a problem with your source video file....and if I click on anything all the area inside that window and the VS9 window turns white, freezes, and says "Not Responding", then closes itself.

Some of the updates may not work with your "free" SE version....all the others couldn't detect VS9 being installed on my computer.

Sorry about bumping, didn't know that. I captured to a MPEG-4 file using the ADS DVD Express 2. I tried a different file, an AVI, to see if it worked, and it did the same thing. Also, when starting up VS9, if I click on Movie Wizard, the same thing happens and always has. A window pops up with the title "Untitled", but inside it is all white, and if anywhere is clicked, it says "Not Responding" and closes. I think it must be a problem with VS9, so I tried updating, but as you said it doesn't work with SE. Hmm...
